Didnt Missouri and Wisconcin have satcom domes on there aft funnels and tower mast structures in 1991 desert storm?? I see the platforms in your pictures but not the domes?

They already addressed this earlier in the thread. They did not include the domes in the kit. But...just so you know, neither dome was a SATCOM dome. The dome on the aft stack was an antenna for the Pioneer RPVs on board. The dome on the front of the forward fire control tower (super structure) is the SPQ-9A gunfire control radar. You will see the same dome on the Ticonderoga-class CGs and Spruance-class DDs masts.

Those domes are present on NJ too. I don't know if they were on Iowa though.

New Jersey never had the SPQ-9A on the front of her fire control tower. Iowa, Missouri, and Wisconsin had both the RPV and SPQ-9A domes.

Hi,
We've decided to release some plus parts for Missouri and Wisconsin.
This photo shows some resin parts including the Doms and some more PE.
Wisconsin has already similar PE parts at our set but resin parts will be released separately.
As for the NJ or Iowa, this plus part will not be released.

Thank you
Kim

I've received the New Jersey set today and I don't have the right words to describe it. It's just truly astonishing!

The Photoetch parts are done in a superb way, layer after layer, there are absolutely no edges with "steps". The thing that most fascinated me in the Photoetch parts are the nano meter precision fit, and a feature that I never seen on any PE set: The ultra thin connections between the parts and the fret. This is something a lot of PE makers should learn! This will greatly decrease the time spent sanding off the edges of the PE parts. All the brass parts are in a separate bag, I don't know how they can achieve such small and precise details on the turned brass parts, but good job Pontos!

I think that the collaboration Pontos have with Veteran Model is 100% spot on! The resin came in plastic bags , sealed off, 1 or 2 details are slightly damaged but nothing beyond repair. Melvin from Veteran Model really do a great job, the photos on the internet just don't justify the beauty of the resin parts, you have to see it in person to understand the quality of it.

The wooden deck is just superb, I did not tried to dryfit it yet, but I think it will fit well. The details are well done, the only small issue is that all the laser cut details are a bit dark, but maybe some painting, weathering tricks will do the job.

It's the fist time I'm trying dry transfers. I did a test with a little black "x" on a piece of paper, the transfer is intuitive, really easy and the effect cannot be compared with water slide decals, it just can't. Print quality is impressive. The only trick is to get the dry transfer in place correctly and don't screw up, since it's a one way trip, but Pontos kindly give us some spare.

Finally the packing. All the resin and brass are protected in sealed bags, the deck and PE parts are put inside a clear foil which is opened from one part (not like other set makers that squeeze their PE in sealed bags or tape them on a piece of cardboard). The box is done from hard cardboard, minimalistic and will protect the content.

All in all, I can really say that in my opinion, Pontos today is the NUMBER 1 in ship aftermarket set. I've tried all kind of PE , from WEM, GMM, Flyhawk, Voyager, Griffon Model, Eduard etc. but Pontos beats them all. I'm not saying that the others are crap, but Pontos is just way out of the league.

Keep doing those amazing sets, this is what people like, an all-in-one set that gives everything that we need to make a lifelike replica of the real thing. The prices are in my opinion "brutally" low, for 160USD I've got 350+USD content, I did a WWII Missouri with all the resin and best PE available at that time (1 1/2y ago) and cost me about 600 USD, this time I'm looking at a 300 USD model that will be (I hope) much more detailed than the last one.

So Pontos, keep the work flowing, and be fast with the USS Enterprise set ;)

Bye,
Sandro.

Question,

I just got the Pontos Modern New Jersey Up Detail set and I'm running into an issue. I have checked and double checked and I have every PE sheet and resin and brass parts that are supposed to be contained in the kit. However I am missing PE parts 210 - 248. It appears that this is an entire PE sheet. There are numerous references in the instructions for PE parts in that range, but none on any of the frets. I'm stuck, I hope this will be an easy answer. Help!

Rob, this might help you to identify what is missing:

Yup, I reviewed the pictures there and right from the pontosmodel.com site and I have all 6 sheets of PE as shown. If you go by the numbers, the sheet of PE #2 ends at 209 and sheet #3 starts at 249. So that's a lot of missing pieces and as I said, if you go by the instructions, they are needed in many areas of the ship. I really appreciate your reply, but I am still in the same... boat...

So if someone that has either built this or Kim from Pontos Model could reply please.

BTW - This is just my second post on here. After spending a year long tour that I got back from 6 months ago in Afghanistan with the US Army, I decided to take back up my childhoow hobby of model building. I had to buy all new equipment and have really enjoyed getting back into it. Looking forward to a lot of great advice on here.

They're on the same sheet as the other 2##s, just not in sequential order after 209:

Hi Guys

I'm new to the forum as I normally build A/C & AFV kits but have a question.

I'm seriously considering getting the (Tamiya 1/350 US Battleship BB-63 Missouri - Circa 1991 # 78029) & the (Pontos 1/350 USS BB-63 Missouri 1991 Detail up set - PS-35009F1)

I am wondering what this kit & update set are like and are they compatible with each other.

Sorry if this seems a dumb question but i want to make sure as its a lot of money to guess.

Many thanks

Mark

Pontos had said that it will fit fine, though at most there will be some parts like the ECM housing that are duplicated.

Hello Kim,

For those of us who have the USS Wisconsin detail set, when can we
expect to receive the extra resin parts set?

Regards,

Bill

Why do I think Pontos might have over-extended themselves and may be in trouble? Website not updated, Facebook not updated, no updates here.. I hope I am very wrong as their sets are some of the best I have ever used.

They are ok, so don't worry about it. Pontos worked 24 hours a day for keeping the dead line for big company' OEM product, this week. They will get back to their Bismarck and Indianapolis project as usual in a week. At least that's what I heard.

Hey guys - just found this thread after a bit of a search over these magnificent sets.

Q - Which set would be most appropriate for a 1986 Missouri ???? (ala - Sydney harbour)
