The 40mm quad mounts on destroyers such as this one never had the amoured shields that you product folder shows.

Could the nonstick coatings be in decal form instead of PE? That might help keep the cost down, and would likely be more prototypical since they were really just glued on strips of anti-skid materials.

The kit already comes with decal non-stick coating. The PE version is, I guess, if you don't want to deal with the trouble getting a good non-silvering decal finish.

I think that the PE version of non-stick coating looks a bit over scale. It looks more like step stones in the garden than thin strips of anti-skid material. I would not use them if I bought this set. It would be great to have a set that come without them and save some dollar. Otherwise the set looking great.

and they usually had the ammo holders around them, like this http://www.am-works.com/store/images/im ... 5060_9.jpg

I guess point of this flyhawk product are the picket radar sets :D

about those etched antiskid, they should be fine once you painted the ship. Paint coat will add a bit of thickness and seal the gaps a bit. Doing this way you could paint after installing everything, then address the antiskid plates with colors or shading. Probably easier than paint it after fully built then applying decals.
