I am very happy to hear the Pontos and Mr. Kim is alive and producing sets! But please allow me to make a comment to your statement which comes exactly on the same day a long awaited sign of life from Mr. Kim comes up. And I mean it in a very polite way. If you knew before today that they are still in business and delivering the goods to you and others, it might have helped our and Pontos situation to say so some time ago.

And the use of the word "seems" means exactly what it means. It seems that ... When a small business company (and I am an owner of a small business company) does not answer emails and does not - contrary to previous behavior and several promisses - show up on a rather active and for the conduct of the business very important message board it should be allowed to draw a conclusion which starts with "It seems ..". But is is the flavor of the times that not the one who behaves strangely is critized for the behavior but rather the one(s) who dare to critize. And let me end with this: If I - as a small business owner - have a problem or a delay in a product or whatever I ALWAYS will have and ALWAYS had have the time of 5 minutes to inform my customers about it. I am sure you feel and do the same. Because we know one thing: a happy customer and a customer that is taken serious is a good customer. That is were the reward and the money comes from, or not?

But no harm done, I hope. If Pontos comes out with further good sets I will continue to buy them as I have done in the past. I hope, Mr. Kim has learned something and continues to prosper.

respectfully,
Dietrich

1/200 Hornet is left only deck details.
This will take 1 week and for editing instruction need 2weeks for net workign time.
Now stacked many projects but I would start this Hornet arrangement from this January.
Thank you
Keumho Kim

Has something happened in the last 10 months and would it be too optimistic to still wait for the set? I mean, the difference of 2 weeks to 10 months is somewhat scary and could lead to an assumption that something "happened on the way." Any comments, any new dates?

Thanks in advance!

Dear Mr. Kim,

would it be too much to kindly ask for an answer? If you don't want to do the kit or if you are not capable of doing so for whatever reason what is so tough to say so? Are you afraid to "loose face"? It is not a crime to step away from a project. It might be, however, not very nice to keep potential customers in the dark.

Truly yours,

Dietrich

As we are finalizing 1/200 HMS Hood set, we resume this set.
Following is the water sliding decal for aircrafts.
Some squadron markings or Tail markings will be added.
Decal will be printed by Cartograf.

Very nice Mr. Kim. I assume you will be doing a set for the Enterprise as well?

The 1/200 Yorktown will be CV-5 and not CV-10, correct?

If so, those aircraft decals are incorrect for 1942. The stars & bars weren't in use then.

Should be a white star in a blue circle, letters and numbers were black.

Two pics of Yorktown SBD's at Midway:

This decal is not final. We would add some variation markings for all sister ships.
So please let me know any information for these markings you wish to get and then we will try to add.
Thank you
Keumho Kim

Hi Kim,

As USS Yorktown CV-5 in particular was sunk at the Battle of Midway in June 1942, her aircraft never received the 1943> "stars and bars" style insignia. From the start of the war until the Battle of Coral Sea, the US Navy aircraft had red dots in their markings which did not have the bars, as shown on this image:

Image

Between the Battle of Coral Sea and the Battle of Midway (days really) all the red was painted out and the white star on blue circle (still without bars) was the last type of markings the USS Yorktown's air group had. Note however that the TBDs at the bottom are from USS Hornet CV-8 and VT-6 was USS Enterprise's torpedo squadron. Although they all used the same shape and style of insignia, the size of the fuselage insignia varied between carriers although I *think* the wing insignia were all the same. At this point and with these style of insignia, the aircraft wore them on both wings top and bottom unlike the later "star and bar" type which was only worn on port upper and starboard lower wing.

Best regards,

Jamie

To further on the above point VS8 at Midway still used white lettering and was in the format of "S-1". So S-plane number.

Everyone else used black lettering.

The formats for each squadron as follows:

VF8 in black (27 planes in total some had the hyphen some did not. It appears that mainly the higher numbers had it)
F1 or F-1

VT8 in black (15 planes in total but the numbers where 2-16)
T-2

VB8 in black (19 planes in total some only had the number)
B-1 or 1

VS8 in white (17 planes in total)
S-1

Went back and looked through my photos and made adjustments; hence the edit.

The decal sheet above would work great for late war CV3, CV6, and the Essex Class from 1944 and on.

I am asking since 3 January 2015 (!!!) about the at that time already fairly progressed set. I was asured over the years by Mr. Kim that it will happen. I dare to ask again: Any time line?

Dietrich

Now that the excellent 1/200 HMS Hood has hit the market I am sure you will come back to your repeated promiss to finish this set which has started to very nicely. May I kindly ask when the release date will be, roughly of course? It is now three years ago that you announced the set with a fairly detailled desription. And, as you said yourself "We don't give up or throw up..." . May I take you by the honor of your word?
Thank you!
Dietrich

Over 17600 views and Pontos refuses the interested customers and answer? I too would like to know the status of the planned set.
Thanks,
Jim

It "seems" as if Mr. Kim has taken a disinterest to customers requests and concerns in recent days. This behavior has been exhibited on the 1/200 HMS Hood thread under "Manufacturers and Suppliers" as well. Mores the pitty.

Mr. Kim surely has the time to inform his devoted customers that the sets will be substantially more expensive, but has no time to answer kind requests and/or come through with years old promisses.

The sets are really great, customer relation is close to abysmal, borderline impolite!

Perhaps we should keep bouncing this to the top until we get some sort of genuine commitment from Pontos Models..... even if they just said we have dropped this project we would all know where we stand.

This was posted on December 3, 2014 by the "missing in action" Mr. Kim:

"Hi, Now finalizing for Instruction manual editing.
We will post soon.
This project is surely the best and largest project of our sets.

Thank you
Keumho Kim"

And since January 3, 2015 I am bouncing this thread without getting a substantial answer. I will do so until such an answer is coming forward. And I do not care really if the answer is "Project has been cancelled" or "Project will be out in two month". I honestly and truly believe, as somebody who has bought Pontos sets for far more than $ 1,000.- total, that politness and honest communication is the basic of any relationship. If that is diferent in the Korean culture (which I do not thing having been there several times) or with this specific company, I would like to know that, too. Why do I want an answer? Because what was shown (and later erased) was very intriguing, especillly in the are of the inside of the hangar. I certainly could proceed with the KA and/or Tetra set, but I still think that the Pontos set might be superior. That is why I beg for answer. Why is it so hard to get one?

Dietrich
