Should be ready within the next two days pending any "life happenings". Newly found photos showing more detail are being checked and cross-checked. Final adjustments to the decks, e.g. supporting structure for the decks, etc., are being made. These parts will be noticeably different to the modeler in some respects than Merit's parts. Every effort has been made to ensure a good fit to Merit's island. Some minor adjustment may be necessary for best fit.

The blue parts, at about 95% complete as of this writing, are for Merit's 1/350 Intrepid. The yellow parts, at about 33% complete, will be included with the blue parts and rescaled for Revell's 1/530 Essexes. The "for Revell design" will be considerably detailed. Several products will be produced unique to other Essexes, depending on available references (Yorktown, Hornet, Lexington, Wasp, Ticonderoga, Hancock, etc.).

The blue "for Merit" parts will be released as soon as their design is complete. Release of the yellow "for Revell" parts will come later, hopefully by the end of the weekend.

Then, Lexington class funnels.

Merit 1/350 Intrepid island decks are ready.

Being design from other plans, not a 3D-printed copy of the Merit kit's parts, some adjustment of these 3D-printed parts may be necessary for best fit. Acrylic plastic is very brittle, but cuts and sand easily. Trim rather than force.

Sometimes Shapeways cancels the first order because one of their printing engineers decides that some feature may be too thin to survive cleaning. If this happens, no worries, Shapeways will let me know what needs thickening and I'll make the change that day and upload the revised design for reordering. The solution is usually a very small design tweak that will not adversely affect the parts' appearance.

Go win contests.

Thanks, Edward!

Also thanks to Ray D. Bean and others
who sent references for 1950s-era Essex islands to convert your 1/700 and 1/350 straight deck Essexes to their Korean war appearance.

The design for the entire island is getting very close to complete, now. Not quite, but getting there. Detailing continues...

For anyone on the fence about buying 3D printed parts I just want to say: You don't know what you're missing! Steve (ModelMonkey) creates true masterpieces for us and I urge anyone thinking about buying parts from him to stop thinking and do it! I have several of Steve's replacement parts and they are incredible.

I am not affiliated with Steve (ModelMonkey) in any way, I am just a satisfied customer.

I'll have to pass on these projects in favor of other designs.

Probably have to decline this one. Some of the items are certainly printable but will take considerable design time to produce. With sales potential for these items uncertain, I'll have to focus on other Fletcher features for 3D printing. When those are done and selling, I'm happy to reconsider these items.

The large SPN-35 final approach radar dome and supporting platform are complete. The SPN-35 radar was especially important at night or in bad weather.

The design for Intrepid's island is nearing completion...

One more pic.

The island will be ready for Revell's 1/530 Essex class kits tomorrow. Yes, the windows will all be open!

This design will be rescaled to 1/500 and offered specifically for the Renwal 1/500 scale USS Shangri La CV-38.

[Edit]: Done!

Korean War-era Essex islands are forthcoming pending the completion of a bit more research.

In the mean-time, the next design has begun. Yorktown CV-5 class islands will be produced for all three ships of the class starting with early-war Yorktown and Enterprise. Here's the design at about 10% complete.

Kelley: the weather shelter on Yorktown's bridge will be included. Just for you.

Hoping for a great year full of new designs, the kinds most modelers just have to have.

Hopefully, no divorce filing will have the phrase "Model Monkey" in it. :cool_2:

The islands are awesome. I was missing an island part for my Hornet, so I used the rest to do an inadequate mod to my Enterprises island. Now this solves everything
