Now in my Shapeways shop for printing in super strong white sintered nylon:
the mighty US Navy ZPG-3W "Vigilance"...
Available in either 1/700 or 1/600 scale (a 1/1250th model will be in the shop within a few days), you have the choice of ZPG-3W with it's undercarriage down and including a mobile mooring mast OR, the 'ship with undercarriage up and on patrol! (There is provision for a 2mm diameter mounting rod.)
The ZPG-3W was the final version of the US Navy's N-Class fleet. They were, and remain, the biggest non-rigid airships ever built with an envelope capacity of 1,516,00 cu ft and overall length of close to 400ft. Four were built and they carried a massive 42ft rotating radar dish suspended within the envelope. The dome on top housed the height finding radar.
The popular name for the ZPG-3W was Vigilance and they were an intrinsic part of the North American early-warning network during the Cold War period. Many details of their equipment and operation remain as classified information.
My original model of the ZPG-3W was for printing in Frosted Detail plastics BUT, in the Spring of 2017 Shapeways implemented a pricing formula that overnight made it almost prohibitively expensive. This new model brings "Vigilance" back to being more affordable!
HAPPY MODELING!
