Thanks to all of you superb customers, researchers and model enthusiasts who have helped make Model Monkey a success!

We are making a big change at Model Monkey. Within the next few weeks, we will be removing those Model Monkey designs from Shapeways that are suitable for printing in gray resin. Those products will only be available in gray resin through the Model Monkey website.

The printing quality difference in gray resin and Shapeways' "Smooth Fine Detail" white acrylic is quite dramatic. Gray resin products are simply far superior with respect to surface smoothness and paint compatibility. Gray resin is also less expensive.

There are some Model Monkey designs that are not suitable for printing in gray resin, such as metal and plastic nameplates or designs with very complex geometries like cage masts. Those products will remain available through Shapeways.

Some other changes:
- We have purchased a new, state-of-the-art 3D printer to help expand our in-house production capacity.
- We are expanding our catalog to include more products for model aircraft and armor.

Thanks again for all your support and encouragement!

Steve's grey resin is peerless, IMO.

I actually prefer smooth fine detail for things like large scale armored turrets and anchors because real things often had rough surface textures, casting flaws and plate rolling striations. Why not keep both?

Same here, I have parts in the new resin and they are much better than Shapeways.
