As promised, the Caquot Type M Observation Balloon is now
HERE, in my
CLASSIC AIRSHIPS shop.
By the end of WW1 the Observation Balloon had become essential equipment for submarine detection throughout the allied powers' naval fleets at least. They were to remain so until the arrival of the British ASDIC system in the early 1920s and the US SONAR sets in the early 1930s. Did your ship really go to sea without one?
Here is HMS Erin with her Observation Balloon...
And here is my CLASSIC AIRSHIPS
Caquot Type M...
The
Type M completes a trio of Observation Balloons now in the shop including the
Type R Caquot favoured by the US Navy and the
Parseval-Sigsfeld that the Caquot types replaced.
Happy modelling everyone!
