From her first flight on 14 October 1929 to her last starting on 4 October 1930, R101 underwent rigorous testing and major modifications to ensure that she was fit for her intended rĂ´le as an intercontinental airliner. Most commentators agree that the job was not finished when she set off on that last fateful journey to Karachi - then in India, now a part of Pakistan - but awful weather was undoubtedly a major factor in her destruction.
This unique model in 1:700 scale is of R101 as she was on that last flight with her hull lengthened by 35ft and many weight saving modifications. The kit includes a finely detailed model of the massive airship mooring mast then at Cardington in Bedfordshire, a substantial display stand plus of course, a superb set of decals.
