Hi
I agree, to do any of the refits would need a new tooling ,this is a link to a very good conversions.I have the IHP Malta and I'm upgrading from a 1945 fit to 1980 it will need a lot of work. Here is a link to all the conversions.

1980 version(middle) hopefully will get back to it this year. That's HMS Ark Royal(top) from the 1970's and HMS Illustrious(bottom) from the 1990's.

Chris, I love what you're doing with the Malta. I've wondered how an injected plastic 1/700 Malta might do. That's one that would go great with the CVA-01.

Mike@IHP do you have any plans to make anything early-war in the near future?

There are two ships, both had short careers, HMS Glorious and HMS Courageous would love either.

The only thing we have planned are Colossus kits.

The injection moulded Malta would go very nicely with the CVA-01 and the Colossus for that matter, As designed it woud have entered service in the late 40s and would have been the equivalent to a Essex come Midway in design and size. It would have operated the later war piston engine types including the likes of Sea Fury, Firebrand, Spearfish, Sturgeon, Firefly and Sea Otter and woud go we with the Colossus kits in the 1946/47 guise.
The Malta could then be done in Korean War guise, possibly with Sea Vampire & Meteor.
If going off the Audacious class then they most likely would have been completed in the mid 50's like Eagle and received upgraded Radar attackers etc, still with the axial deck.
Given that they followed the Audacious then its likely they would have been modified before completion to an Angled deck configuration akin to Ark Royal with a reduction of the close range AA guns, better radar, steam catapults and the Sea Hawk, Sea Venom, Wyvern and Skyraider AEW airwing with Gannet ASW aircraft.
All these would be possible with the standard kit with modifications by the modeller to suit and would sit well with the Illustrious, Colossus and Eagle/Ark kits.

Those more adventurous could go down the route of the Victorious/Hermes/Eagle rebuilds with the RN class A fit, with full angled deck, 984 radar, steam catapults, Sea Cat AA missiles, Sea Vixen, Scimitar and Buccaneer and then Phantom.

Those feeling braver could go with the a Midway style conversion, with sponsons on both sides, deck edge lifts etc maybe with the alaskan highway and the parallel flight deck of CVA-01.

A kit would therefore offer a lot of potential for the builder, and there was planned to be three ships so they could mirror the Midways in terms of upgrades and lifespan to the builder

I would certainly buy a few (and i already have your resin Malta.

Cheers

Geoff

Hi,
To all of us who would like to see a 1/350 HMS Rodney or Nelson, I recently was able to get a response from someone at Trumpeter that states that they currently don’t have any plans to develop these ships, I think if we can show a significant interest in these ships we could change their minds.

So let’s speak up and see if there are enough of us.

Thank you!
Tom

If you need votes, you have mine. I’ve waited for a Rodney most of my adult life. I would by a kit as soon as it was released.

That's rather strange statement for a trumpeter rep to make, considering they're both listed in the 2020-2021 Trumpeter catalog...

Up next from Flyhawk is the 1/700 HMS Aurora 1941 version. Hopefully after that will be the Ajax, Achilles and Sydney???

This one?...https://www.ebay.ca/itm/184780399221?ha ... Sw~E5gftry Looks like it comes with a lot of 3-D printed parts which really jumps the price way up! Usually I am all excited about any Flyhawk release. Certainly NOT interested in this Flyhawk kit! I hope this is not a beginning trend for this company! :Mad_6:
:wave_1:
If this was one of their high quality styrene kits at a reasonable price I would probably get one.

At first glance the price looks high but on further inspection of the marketing material they sent out to businesses (we get it on the distribution list since we sometimes input to paint guides along with "dick" from this forum) this kit does include 3D printed bridge, boats, gun tubs etc on a single 3D printed unit but it also includes choice of full hull or waterline, a good size comprehensive fret of PE and turned brass barrels for main and secondary guns. This is therefore effectively a "Delux" edition kit similar to those available for their HMS Prince of Wales.

Maybe you think it's a good price, but compared with Deluxe Bismarck - less than $65 CAN (37 GBP). Deluxe PoW is the same price as Bismarck. (BTW, I don't shop from the most expensive place I can find. Prices are from trusted Chinese vendors on ebay. I've bought all my Flyhawk models from such vendors). 3D printing is certainly a saving for Flyhawk as they don't have the expense of cutting new molds, but some vendors don't seem to be passing on those savings to the consumer. The price of this "Deluxe" Deluxe Aurora 1941 is already starting to come down: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/174743360160?ha ... SwaXRggp2B.

There is not going to be a 1/350 scale Rodney. Trumpeter does not make half of what they promise. Just bought the ISW kit on eBay for $800, anybody sitting on theirs could sell it for quite a lot...

Yes but that don't reveal the "Truth" awaited by us people : the long awaited messiah of 1/350 soul salvation : Nelson-Rodney reincarnated on earth by Trumpeter‘s will, even if it's by plastical means, relegating resin to the limbs...

Hobby Boss is showing a Gato sub 1941 in 1/350 for June release. I wonder if it’s a new tooling or the old AFV Club molds.
