That looks very “Treaty Cruiser.”

Especially American Treaty Cruiser-ish.

It is very nearly a Pensacola-class or Northampton-class in appearance, with the Pensacola-class probably being closer.

Both have four “turrets,” and the amidships Catapults without Hangar (or did I miss the Hangar???), and the Turrets fore/aft of Catapults/well-deck.

And the same sort of beautiful Tripod Foremast.

I am guessing that the Dupleix is the same class?

Dupleix was one of four heavy cruisers of the Suffren class - the second French heavy cruiser class of the Washington Treaty period.

They have nothing to do with the USN ships except of being also Washington cruisers.

All four ships of the Suffren class looked very different - probably the reason, why only now there are the first 1/700 kits of the class - Dupleix and Colbert by SSModel.

I just built the Colbert. It's a wonderful little kit with a great deal of detail. I have ordered the Dupleix and look forward to receiving it. I hope that they do a Foch as well.

Hey Maxim

the RN Re d'Italia (1864)...--

that's the one that got rammed at the battle of Lissa 1866...?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of ... %281866%29

where the Imperial Austrian Navy won the naval battle of Lissa near the island of Vis, which today belongs to Croatia, against the numerically and technically superior Italian fleet by using ramming tactics on 20 July 1866. This was probably the last naval battle to be won using this tactic. This was also the first naval battle in which newly developed armoured ships were used on a larger scale.

Intriguingly ... the most common image of the battle of Lissa is the unfortunate Re d'Italia
slipping below the waves after the ramming by the ironclad SMS Erzherzog Ferdinand Max as below ;

Now then--as a naval enthusiastic 7 years old child I received this 1000 piece Ravensurger puzzle in 1971 ... and loved the image
pre-internet in the seventies I always assumed that it was the same battle of Lissa--and as a child could never understand
the presence of an image of pure sailing ships and the armoured ram bowed steam powered ironclads... ( and was confused by the presence of English and what appear to be French flags in a battle between Austrians and Italians..

the simple solution a short 50 or so years later is that there were 2 battles of Lissa ! :doh_1: :doh_1:

A view of the Battle of Lissa (or Battle of Vis), fought on 13 March 1811 between a combined French and Venetian squadron, commanded by Rear-Admiral Bernard Dubourdieu (1773-1811), and a smaller British squadron, commanded by Captain William Hoste (1780-1828), resulting in a British victory. Napoleonic Wars (1803-15).

Yes, that is the one from the battle in 1866.

The Battle of Lissa in 1811 is one of many examples of how copying Nelson's tactics at Trafalgar is usually a bad idea and results in defeat. The victor of Lissa in 1866, Tegetthoff, also copied Nelson's tactics, e.g. at Helgoland in 1864 (resulting in his flagship being severely damaged and retreating to neutral waters).

A “What if” ship, I suppose from “World-of-Warships” it appears.

It looks to have a hull roughly the same dimensions as the Atago/Takao, and maybe the Tone, but with a layout more like the Mogami-class absent the 1st Turret.

The size overall is hard to guess given either artwork for the Box, or the parts shown below. But I bet it is close to Mogami or Tone-class.
