Hobby Link Japan lists the following new navy yard/dock yard kits in 1:700 scale, no photos... but the manufacturer's page reveals what's in store for IJN fans:

BB-class graving dock, buildings, and cranes, including ocean-base. $55.00 US.

HC-class graving docks, buildings, and cranes, including ocean-base. $44.00 US.

DD-class graving dock, buildings and cranes, including ocean base. $32.00 US.

In total, a much wide range of cranes, buildings and graving dock sizes than has been available before.

Cranes and buildings are also sold separately, pricing in the $5.00 - $8.00 range, US.

Material appears to be laser cut wood/paper.

Scale?

He indicates 1:700 scale in his original post - perhaps an edit prompted by your question. The original kit molds date to 1980, perhaps not quite as old as one might think, given the lack of detail and horrible seams and design of the original kit. More recently, in 2005, Hasegawa released two PE detail set upgrades, but they alone don't address key issues.

Yes, the Taiping is their first ship subject. The Taiping is the subject of the new John Woo movie, "The Crossing", about that steamer's journey from mainland China to Taiwan. She was carrying 1500 passengers trying to escape the Communists when she sunk.

Aoshima's upcoming release of the Aikoku Maru Auxiliary Cruiser is a circa 1943 version of the ship, with enclosed versions of the 14 cm cannon, and a false funnel: http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/image/10289527a2/20/2

Dream Model has just released a 1:700 scale plastic Zubr-type air cushion landing craft (NATO code name Pomoruniku): http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10297218

This is the second release of this class in the last few weeks, as Gwylan Models also released a kit (with more PE) that is lower-priced: http://www.gwylanmodels.com/products/1-700-evgeny-kocheshkov

So the Trumpeter site's new product preview section wasn't intended to be monthly? They have not updated their new product preview section since August.
