Why no mention of new 1/350 scale 3D Wild ship releases (Illustrious, Soryu, etc.) in this thread? I expect to hear about new model ships by checking this thread! However, I never would have known about these if I hadn't tripped over them by chance...

I have wondered that as well. There seems to be a lack of interest in their products on this forum. I am not sure why.

Why did you not post them yourself? This thread is not a paid service, in which you could "expect" anything.

Hey, what do you all think of this 3DP/Resin hybrid offering from SS Model?

German light cruiser Emden WW2:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/165735349122?m ... name=11011

I don't recall ever seeing an Emden in any format before. Was there one?

I haven't tried any of their kits to judge quality but I do know the seller is very reliable.
Im of the impression SS Model is their own in house brand. Could be wrong and if you ask my wife
Im sure Im wrong but we all knows how that goes;)

I purchased one, it is nicely molded. A nice addition

Light crusier Emden was done in 1/700 scale by HP Models a number of years ago.

I have both the SS Model Emden and the HP version and the SS Model is far superior. Both in detail and ease of building and even the price is good but then HP is no longer producing resin kits so they are difficult to find. I got mine for HP 15-20 years ago and it cost at least $60 at that time ( I was part of a $2,000 order) and my SS Model Emden cost $59 including shipping from China.

How are the SS Model instructions for Emden? I bought their Bretagne and the instructions were really poor - I actually followed drawings and photos of the ship I found online for the most part.

It was very difficult to impossible to tell what needed to be trimmed from the parts (e.g. from the bridge platforms) and what should stay. There were missing parts too - e.g. no anchors or secondary directors for the bridge wings, though the bases were there and you could make them out on the "instruction" sheet.

I found too that the model was based on the World of Warships Bretagne which is "modified" (e.g. more light AA, AA gun tubs on B and X turrets), not an accurate reflection of the actual ship in 1940.

But...in terms of quality of the 3D printing and detailing...it was pretty nice! At least in my view...

I think a lot of models they have are just from either WoWs or War Thunder 3D models they adopted to printing. How all of that licensed is a separate topic, but it is sad to see you found instructions to be lacking.

I know someone who ordered a lot of their models now and will get them in couple of weeks. Would be able to tell a lot then.

The 3D printed stuff is the way to go. Much less parts, much better accuracy. Superior to injection moulding it seems, but they could benefit from more brass (especially for masts, gun barrels, railings). It is not the first company to foray into this - some like Modelbauray printed few interested subjects but they have too thick details on deck, hull plating, etc. They have an Averoff which is cool, or the Swedish coastal Battleship. Im considering to start building those kits more and more, I think it is the future for realistic models.

SS models now have the USN cruisers Pensacola, Northampton, and Portland all 1942 fit on the 30-day preorder list. The ones currently shown come with a lower hull since the product number has an S at the end. The graphics of each also show full hull. They are expensive at $109.99 each. The drawings look very good, but there are no photos yet of the printed parts. You have to look under the presale list to see them. They also have in preorder Zara and Pola models as well as the Indian cruiser Mysore (ex HMS Nigeria). The Mysore is now available, waterline and full hull versions, and there are photos of the printed parts.

Northampton https://www.ebay.com/itm/166013075127?h ... Sw~xRkM5kD
Portland https://www.ebay.com/itm/166013074626?h ... SwAZRkKotr Portland will have PE for degaussing cable.

I picked up the Mysore a couple of months ago. It appears to be very well done. Have not yet started on it but I feel it will build up well.

So....that means you need to scrutinize their models if you want an accurate depiction of the real ship, as is clear with Bretagne, they may be modified for gaming purposes.

And here's another example of a big "What-if":
"SMS" (should be "KM"?) König - reconstructed WW2 fit.

This appears to be true - all of their 3D-printed models are of ships which can be found in either WoWS or WT. This would explain some of their more obscure releases such as Mysore, the fictional Konig refit and some of the Russian battleships (they have Imperatritsa Mariya and Oktyabrskaya Revolutsiya).

They actually did have a number of resin kits which appeared to be modified copies of kits from another out of business company (forgot the name) albeit with much more PE included; however these were recently pulled from sale. Not sure as to why this is the case as last time I checked they still had a decent number of them in stock - potentially some sort of legality issue?

On a side note, I recently stumbled upon a seller on aliexpress which makes 3D-prints of some of the fictional ships from WoWS - for instance this model of the German battleship "Pommern". Interestingly (and perhaps questionably) they have chosen to print all of the rails on the model - somewhat like what Modellbauray does but with the entire ship.
