Hello,

I need a hook up. I need a "walk around" photo collection of the MK 12 5"/50 deck gun located 100 yards West of the Veteran's Affairs building in downtown St. Paul. This gun is Mount 52 from the USS Ward. It fired America's first shot in WWII. I can PayPal you some money or swap kit or something for your time. The MK 12 was also the primary submarine deck mount for the first part of the war.
I am doing drawing scale plans and need the photos as references.

Regards,

Mark Meredith

Mark-
I live in the Twin Cities once again and have some photos taken several years ago.
What are you looking for? I think I have some from all sides but my young son is in some of them.
Do you need some with measurement reference in them?
I can send them to you directly or try to post them here.
Regards-
Jeff Seeling

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for the offer. Any kind of close up would help. Dimensional data can be found in the US Navy GUN MOUNT AND TURRET CATALOG posted here: https://maritime.org/doc/guncat/index.htm
Anything showing the sides and underneath the breech. Anything showing the pedestal area would also be useful.

Regards,

Mark,

I'm just finishing up reading "The USS Ward" by Richard P. Klobuchar. In the epilogue on page 221 there is a picture from the breech end of no. 3 gun that's in St. Paul. Hopes that helps.

Regard, R Wood
