Hi Guys,

Just looking for opinions. Which manufacturer makes the best 1/700 scale Swordfish aircraft?

Thanks,

Bruce L. Kapito

The top two contenders must be the offerings from l'Arsenal and Flyhawk. Both use photoetch fro the interplane struts and each has its own approach to the centre section cabane. Flyhawk moulds this solid, which makes it easier to assemble the model. L'Arsenal simply ignores the cabane and leaves it to the builder to address. The wings are moulded by Flyhawk and photo-etched by l'Arsenal. I would give l'Arsenal the slightest of edges.

Good review of the Flyhawk Swordfish (Swordfishes?) here on Youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFjNBmvpnPM

I have the L'Arsenal set and think it's pretty good as well, with excellent thin PE wings and details. No decals however so that's a point in the Flyhawk column. I suspect the Flyhawk set is easier to build since it's injected with PE details rather than PE/Resin although one could argue that some detail like the wing wires and fuselage detail are over scale.

Also a couple of pics of the Aoshima option to round out the topic. Size wise isn't too bad actually and aside from the vertical tail captures the look reasonably well. Probably the least bad plane on the fret (which admittedly isn't saying too much).

Discontinued, but box pic here: https://hlj.com/product/AOSWL512

Best option in my opinion: Get both Flyhawk AND L'Arsenal! Each have pros and cons but they are fairly cheap and both companies have a good product which are worth supporting.

Here are my Swordfish from Flyhawk.

The detail is great, just a pe landing gear would have been perfect. Otherwise they where easy to assembly.

Greetings Christian

Agreed, some detail is over-scale, but in that scale fine detail like engraved panel lines and rigging have to be exaggerated so it is visible. You can please some of the people some of the time, and the rest of the people the rest of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time!
