Here's the next item I found in my Intrepid Museum archives.

It's the program from the Intrepid's Welcome Home 'Final' Voyage, Sunday, June 13, 1982, when she was towed from the Military Ocean Terminal in Bayonne, NJ, to her permanent home on Pier 86 in Manhattan.

As I have previously posted, the day was pretty miserable - cold and rainy - strictly "Ceiling Zero" conditions, with the clouds pretty much right on the deck. Most of the airshow scheduled was cancelled. We did not board Circle Line boats, as detailed in the program, but rather went by bus to Bayonne. I don't remember whether the weather was the reason for this.

Disco Queen - Gloria Gaynor sung "The Star Spangled Banner" and "America the Beautiful".

The voyage took almost 4 hours, as I recall. At least the Intrepid did not get stuck in the mud with Hillary Clinton on board, in 2006, like she did when they tried to pull her away from Pier 86 when she was scheduled for her 2nd overhaul as a museum ship. ... repid.html
