Good morning all!

New project... new problems  '

I hope some of you fellow modelwarshippers can assist!

Question 1

I am in the process of making fair progress on my new model-- HMS Hood --

-hms-hood-1893-94.jpg [ 164.95 KiB | Viewed 285 times ]

not the 'usual' Hood...but the 1891 pre-dreadnoughht HMS Hood !
that being the unique one-off low freeboard slightly gawky looking member of the Royal Sovereign class

the building thread is here:

The Combrig model is an older release ( I guess around 10 -14 years ago--anyone know?)
( it seems ) based singularly on the on the Burts drawing that can be found in the book
British Battleships, 1889-1904 a fine volume-- (I have the first edition bought at eye watering expense10 years ago )

The side elevation drawing of Hood in the book is nice in outline and corresponds well to photos -but lacks a number of details
( aft anchor hawsepipes for example ! )

So this poses the questions-- does the new revised edition of the book contain any additional images of drawings that make it a must-buy?

Meanwhile Question2

a particular query about the ship
At the stern there are 2 x hawse holes for the stern anchosr--which were carried slung to the side
None of this is shown on the drawing but it is discernible in ( dark) photos
There also appears to be a deep " groove on what seems the apex of the stern

what is that and is it a groove as I believe--
if so I shall add it ( by removing material from the hull )

below please find a ( lightened for clarity ) image of the stern showing the hawse and anchors-- but also the " groove "

....I buy them at three times the speed I build 'em.... will I live long enough to empty my stash...? ... index.html

Jim, there is a decent photo of her in Parkes, also another decent photo in Ned's Navy by Frank Urban and one in Warrior to Dreadnought (Brown).

Could also be worth asking around the diving community for images of her? She is in Portland Harbour. Also Portland museum may have information on her
