Post subject: How Does Kostas Do It?
PostPosted: Mon Jan 22, 2024 4:05 pm
I've seen Kostas' work on this site over the years and almost each new submission of his seems just a bit better than the last. Well, his latest work is incredible. Dry docked Iowa class BB with other ships in the mix, plus a couple of subs....bravo!!!! The dry dock is itself a work of art. Detail is exceptional and all in 1/700 scale.

He is arguably the best ship modeler at present. AND he is prolific. His works seem to churn out every month or so if not more frequently. How does he do it? Does he employ assistants and if so, how does he vet them? Where do his works go.....presumably they are sold to collectors, but for what kind of price range?

I wonder what his workshop looks like. It must be magnificent as he seems to have everything necessary to complete the many incredible models he has showcased.

If anyone can provide more background on this magician, I'd be interested.

Well I don't know him personally, but I think he is a professional modeller..

And yes I agree his builds are lovely, I always enjoy seeing his gallery updates here. He had a blog though it hasn't been updated in a while:
https://katsflyby.blogspot.com/

He posts on the messageboard here occasionally too.

For those of you that you did follow my FB page note that my account got hacked a few weeks ago and as a result i have lost all control and access to it so it will remain dead from now on with me being unable to respond or even see new messages and ofcource unable to updated as well.Instead i please visit my new page with similar title- Kostas ship models version 2 - if you want to see any new updates on my models.

And yes as i am building almost 100% now on a commission basis , my production rate and variety of subjects is a direct result on my customer base wish and demand to a large extent.

I regularly follow their work and recognize the enormous amount of work and dedication they require.
It is a pleasure to see your work.

Oh! Good… I mean about you still having a source, not that your FB account got hacked (I don’t use FB much anymore, as I hate Social Media as a whole. But it is useful for keeping track of creative work).

And “Good,” because I can ask what model is the AK parked to the… Starboard of the Iowa?

And what ship is it supposed to be, or is it just a Generic Liberty/Victory Ship?

And is that shell-dye all over the bow?

MB

P.S. It is painful to see things like this when I used to work as a Model Builder for movies in the 1980s. I could manage to do realistic stuff that was down to about 1/144… 1/300 at the smallest if it wasn’t going to be something that people saw for a long time.

But having stopped for so long and focusing solely on 1/700 now it is a struggle to come even close to this…

So I am intensely jealous.

I have gone back to just building smaller, easy to finish things (now that I have my arms back, and a place to work) just to build confidence and “finish” things…

But I will probably not live long enough to ever get near that kind of detail.

I used to build a lot on Instagram and show my work there form 2016, when not many people did it (today it is crazy, someone is copy cat of smth all the time, images being stolen, reshared etc). I started under pascalemod account but then I also lost access to it in 2021! I had to start from scratch again (under shipific) and continue now there...

Yet I find the whole experience very shameful by Meta in how they are apparently super good at policing swastikas, but dont do enough to stop the spam, fraud and racist content their platform has, never mind the hacking or lack of any customer support etc.

Truly baffling and sorry this happened to you Kostas, sounds like victim of own success. Now someone is talking to customers and getting order probably to never deliver anything. I hope you keep your client base accounted for and notified.
