U-Boat Laboratorium is currently working on the follow kit in 1/350 scale:

SMS Scharnhorst
French Battleship Justice
French Destroyer Spahi
Type UE-1 U-Boat
Type UC-II U-Boat

Based on the kits that I have from U-Boat Lab, these should be excellent kits, well detailed and excellent quality.

Can anyone clear up something on the Midship Idaho?

In Tim's first post, he has kit #MPK318 listed as a 1945 version to be released in 2009.

Freetime Hobbies has it listed as a preorder item with the same kit #, but Sean in the NM Class forum ordered it and got the 41 version.

PacFront has the 1941 version listed, and it has the same kit # as the 1945 version, MPK318.

So I checked ScaleHobbyist.com, and they also have the 41 version listed as MPK318.

Unfortunately, Midships seems to have a long and sordid history of quality control problems. I have been trying for almost a year to get a correct deck platform for my WICHITA kit, but have not received any reponse from Midships. Similarly, it apears that part of the searchlight platform for both my ALASKA and GUAM kits is missing from the PE fret. Again, there is has been no reponse to my inquiries. Cliff Decker does not seem to care about customer satisfaction.

As a result, I have been reluctant to purchase other Midships kits even though I would really like to have the NEW MEXICO and the IDAHO. Who knows? Maybe Trumpeter will come through with a plastic kit. I never thought I'd see a plastic RICHELIEU or REPULSE or RENOWN either, but Trumpeter/Pit Road delivered. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I know that all the New Mexicos are 1941 versions despite what has been published previously.

Hi,

It would seem appropriate to list out a new 1/350 manufacturer. This has risen out of the threads on the Royal Navy models in 1/350 which have been combined into one thread :http://www.shipmodels.info/mws_forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=42856.

This company is Cruise Line Models of U.K; they are to bring out HMS Renown WW2 Battlecruiser (as rebuilt) and HMS Sheffield WW2 light cruiser, plus one unannounced as present.

The models will be resin waterline with the option of a full hull purchase. Full details as yet to be published, release date is November 2009.

This is an opportunity for RN warship modellers of cruiser size ships to indulge.

Regards,

Hugh Williams

Not intending to stir up a typhoon, but the Dragon USA website is listing the Akitsushima in 1:350 for Novemeber release. Any idea if it is for world-wide distribution this time? FYI, the photos look like previously seen shots...resin hull, lots of P/E and finished product shots. Sounds like it may be time to start saving all those loose nickels & dimes.

Saw on the web site the USS Galveston CLG-3 will be coming out soon. I can't wait for this one. I have been waiting along time for someone to do a converted Cleveland to a CLG! Now just need someone to do a 1/700 USS Oriskany (CV-34) (1968)!

I put a call out on this site for an old Jim Shirley 1/700 USS Oriskany kit and after a bit, a gentleman in the Netherlands came through. I think that it is a bit underscale but it builds into a nice kit. You might give that a try.

Robin,

Thanks for the heads up on the Niko Galveston. To think I was just getting ready to order plans for this ship to scratch build from the Pit Road Cleveland! The is another CLG kit on the market from Ships & Company, the Terrier version (verses Talos armed Galveston) USS Providence. USS Galveston is also unique in being the only Talos CLG that was not a command cruiser, two six inch mounts verses just. Great stuff for those of use who like the initial US Navy missle ships.

William,
The USS Topeka (CLG-8) has the same config as USS Galveston except Terrier missile system in the back. Topeka was not a command cruiser, two six inch mounts verses just one too. The reason was the navy wanted to rush the missile systems out to the fleet quickly so both ships just had the conversation done without the command portion done. Now I don't know about the Topeka, but the Galvestion was retired becuase of very bad hogging, thats why she was one of the first to be decommed too.
