Flight Deck Blue is a stain except on metal then a paint so why have a stain covering a stain?

Stained but when not stained it was usually doug fir or spruce and possibly another type of wood. BBs, cruisers and tenders were teak. Nor sure about the submarine deck slats.

Carriers used Douglas fir wood for the most part. The only Mahagony wood used was a single plank right next to the tie-downs in the arresting gear area of Essex class. There was Mahagony deck stain that was used before the war, but never on the Casablanca class and likely never on any CVE.

A one-off, and right on the borderline here... How about the Long Island in July of '41? Photo link for Navsource:

Guessing an already badly weathered 5D hull, but might the deck be mahogany with yellow markings? Or is it a blue stain with clean light gray stripes? (Clearly in the time when the F2As are in overall light gray, and they seem to blend in, so possibly?)

Thank you for the information, that will be most helpful for my Liscombe Bay build.

Most of the carrier BOGPs had some sort of note for decking, but for some reason none of the Casablanca BOGPs I've seen (including Thetis Bay's) have any mention of wood. Closest I was able to find was Chenango of the Sangamon class:

I already have that 1 plus 7 others both complete & incomplete for 5 escort carrier classes saved on my computer. so mostly likely Douglas Fir was used on the escort carriers.
