Hello Guys.

I've got problems with AA layout. My dad got 1/700 AJM Models kit, I've got 1/350. In both kits there been showing different guns in upper wiew paint sheme. In 1/700 there is 40mm Vickers, in 1/350 the 20mm. In 1940 photos that I have there is nothing there, but on 1944-45 there is single Oerlikon, what about 1941-42, can You help Guys?

In 1940 Stuart carried 2 single Mk II 2 Pdr Pompoms in the positions you have noted. It is not recorded when the guns were landed, but 10th Flotilla records list pompoms were in action against aircraft in mid Feb 1941. The 2 Pdrs were removed very likely in late Feb 1941 as they cannot be seen in images from March onwards. After the ship`s return to Australia and refit late 41/early 42 two single 20mm oerlikons on Mk II pedestals were fitted in the positions noted. Those weapons remained in situ until the end of hostilities and are shown in her GA plans as an APD in 1945.

My guess is that the image you have posted is dated early Oct 1940, just prior to her refit in Malta. Her mainmast has been landed and her forward funnel does not have the small addition of black camo swatch below the cravat. At such a poor resolution you will not see the pompoms, no Breda were fitted at that time. Your weapons fit will depend exactly on the period you intend your model to represent as weapons changed all the time. Two Breda were fitted in early Feb 41, a Breda 37 was carried on the qtrdeck. My left attachment shows Stuart approx. mid/late Feb 41, I have circled a Breda (likely a 65 20mm) and also the pompom still fitted. The right image shows her stern approx mid 41 fitted with the Breda 37 and also a Vickers 303 on X gunhouse blast apron.
