Hello all,

I have recently picked up a “few” second hand Hobby Boss U-Boats and old Matchbox Narvik Class destroyers and want to detail them up a bit (all in 1/700 scale).

Obviously for the railings, any antenna, doors, hatches etc I will be using PE parts (most of which I picked up at Telford last year from Tom’s Modelworks).

However with regards to the AA weapons what are people’s thoughts on the better choice and why; PE or resin?

Thanks

Matthew

I'll go PE over a resin casting any day. With pE, it's right there, and no mixed media glueing

I do not like PE AA guns. I prefer resin or 3D printed. The PE guns are too "flat", they just don't look right to me.

Typically I would agree with resin/3D replacements, but I have a few Flyhawk Uboat Type Vll's in 1/700. The single 20 mm guns are PE. They are a little fiddly, but they do look fantastic, and you can't tell the barrel is flat in that scale. A coat of paint rounds off any squareness of the barrel. :wave_1:

I really think the3DModelparts small AA weapons look great. Looking at my older builds with bunches of PE 20mm, I flirt with the idea of replacing them all. Probably won't replace on older builds, but new builds will certainly use those 3D parts.

I have used both PE and 3D printed AA guns in 1/700 and I like the 3D stuff much better. For my future builds, I will be using the 3D printed stuff only.

Thanks for the advice guys....I have had a look at 3D Model parts and there stuff seems really good..... though am also looking at upgrading the main guns on the destroyers now....these "cheap" models are becoming rather pricy :heh:
