I am just finishing the 1/350 Jeremiah O'Brien kit from Trumpeter. I got the kit plus the full PE set for very cheap so I decided to experiment with some weathering techniques. I detailed the decks, cargo hatches, cranes, deckhouse, and such with some black and brown washes. I added rust to the hull sides with some oil paints thinned with mineral spirits and then worked on blending it all with some pastel powders. I will probably use some more of the pastels to blend the colors a bit more. Any additional tips and such would be appreciated.

Bob, thanks for the input and the pictures. They give me some very good ideas for my next one. I thought the rust was overdone but since it was a learning experience, I don't mind too much. I learned some good stuff by doing it and your pics and suggestions will definitely help for the next one. Thanks again. Mike.
