I am currently working on my flight deck and need a little help weathering it. It is currently painted Engine/Panzer gray from the Testors rattle can. The arresting cable area should/will be a considerably darker and more weathered. Can anyone recommend the best ways to break up the deck and give it a more real look?

Also, I have considered going over the decal stripping with clear smoke of to knock of the edges and give them a more used look.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Chris

Have you given any thought to using chalks/pastels? Sand some into a pile with a sanding stick or paper, then brush and dab it onto the surface with a paintbrush. Build it up until you like it, then seal with clear.

When i did my Nimitz (As the Goerge Washington) i used black MIG pigment. Firstly, i gave the deck a general light coating before adding more to the more worn areas of the deck. I did slightly overdo this but it doesn't look too bad

I haven't heard anything about MIG inks, but I think the effect you got could also be had from Alclad or Gunze clear smoke. I'll make sure to try it out on my unused hanger deck parts. I'll also give the pastels a try as well.

Thanks again.
