Was in the Melbourne bookstore Hylands today where Randall Wilsons art hangs.
One of his recent works for Trumpeter box art is the Connie.
So should not be to far away.
Great days!

Hi red,

Here is where I got mine. I had them shrunk down to 1/350 scale at a blueprint store.

Good Luck!

Hello everybody

Just bought a CVA-60 Saratoga from Revell of E-Bay...the first issue with the Arabian harbor szene on the box! Any links and tips for the build...in the future! First task will be to do a high resolution scan of the box art and give it to a friend for digital restauration and enhancement. I always wanted that picture framed on my wall...

thanks
Uwe

Here is CVW-9 Conny 1981. I like the go navy site because on some of the deployments, you can get the BUNO's for the aircraft.

1980 http://www.gonavy.jp/CVW9-NG1980.html

1981-1982 http://www.gonavy.jp/CVW9-NG1981.html

Okay, got Kitty Hawk on the porch this morning. At first glance, awesome! Judging from her air wing looks like a 2000 era Hawk. So if I'm looking at doing a 1981 Connie, basically leave off the CIWS sponsons and RAM launchers? Probably more but I think that'd be a start.

Also look at the sponsons on each side at the stern. It appears that between Jan 1983 and Feb 1984, Conny got the Aft, Port CIWIS Station, the Port Forward CIWIS Sponson, the Starboard Forward Sea Sparrow Sponson, and the CIWIS Station on the Island. For the ship prior to 1983 remove all of that and re-work the two aft sponsons from the kit to cut off the extensions where the Kitty Hawk Kit has the Aft CWIS. You have to re-work the Island because it changed noticeably when they added the CWIS on the starboard side. I am not sure what has to be done to the mast but it will need some rework as well.

There appears to be a Conny in the works according to the rumor mill. You might want to wait and see.

Good luck,

Mark

WHAT? A new Connie in the works???? Figures, right after I sneak the Hawk into the house! Don't suppose you have a source for said rumors, Mark?

And yes, looking over the instructions and the pictures on navsource, the changes you reference look to be correct. Real problem now is finding name for stern and deck/island number.

Sorry for the delayed reply. One of those weeks!

I read on this forum someplace that there might be a Conny in the wind. No concrete input and I have not seen anything lately. Might be much to do about nothing. It would be pretty easy for Trumpeter to do one.

I am hoping to get my last A-4C Squadron completed this week for JFK and then I will move to completing the carrier. I am hoping that L'Arsenal does the 1/350 scale S-2 Trackers soon so that I can start CVW-11 1975 for Kitty Hawk.

Well it has been a long time coming but I should see my hull sometime in December. I have decided on 4 crest motors to push her along.
Soon the fun will begin, just how to transport a 4.5 meter model ship around...........

Wow! 1/144 scale? Looks like you need a pick up truck and a bass boat trailer!

Very cool! :thumbs_up_1:

The Connie is 1/72 scale. I have a mate that will help me build her custom trailer, trying to make it as simple to deploy as possible. The hull being built by Tim Amos in Australia. She will be fitted out as she was in 2003. If anybody has any information regarding this, it would be appreciated. I am on,y working on pictures and video I took when I was on HMAS Darwin and we where plan guard on her port side. I didn't realise back then I was going to build a scale model of her. Hindsight will beat you every time.

1/72 scale... Would to one day like to build a CVN-65 in that scale... Your Connie looks good so far, please keep posting pics of your progress!! As for pics of CV-64 from 2003. Navsource.org has several, even a couple of good island shots. I've posted the link to the page for pics from 1983-2003. Hope it helps you out...

Stillmotion Photographics photo reference CDs of the Connie will be an absolute necessity if you want to get the details on this beast correct. You can not click and buy, you need to email and Ray will get you what you need. I use his CDs for all of my builds and they are well worth every penny.

Thanks wvtomcat65 & sgtryan13. I will look at both sources. every little bit helps. I have a little OCD with my ships, that's why it takes a while. that and the availability of time. things are looking up though.

You're welcome Pawly!! And I agree 100% with sgtryan13 on the reference CD's from Stillmotion. I have a couple of the CD's myself & they are great to have in the reference bank... Also, since your model is in the "Large Scale" range, you might want to try this website/forum as well... http://wmunderway.8m.com/home/home.htm ... A friend of mine is building a 1/96 Perry Class FFG, and he said the site & the forum has helped him greatly. And there are plans for CV-64 as well. The link I have included for those has two listed. They are for scales other than the 1/72 you are working with. But they could still help with your build. Just open the link, scroll down, & you'll see them listed... http://www.floatingdrydock.com/G.htm ...

Hope all this helps as well

Thomas

Thanks Thomas, I am finishing off my 1/72 FFG based on HMAS Darwin 04. I served on her for a few years. I have all the plans for Connie, bought them from the floating dry dock 3 years ago, that's how long it has taken to get it this far. Being as big as it is, it is going to take a little time to get finished.

I have emailed stillmotion and replied very quickly. I will be getting the reference CDs shortly, hoping for the exchange rate to get a little better.

I will look into the wmunderway website later on tonight.

Thanks for your help so far, it has been appreciated.

Pawly.

I'd say just be a little more patient, we will probably see a dedicated photo etch set for these new carriers within a couple months. As for tow tractors the best ones are from Black Dog. If you want a deck scrubber, fire trucks and forklifts, you'll need to get the Jag crane and tractor set for the LHDs.

Do you suppose someone might come out with A DISPLAY STAND???? :Mad_5:
