I'm building a 1/350 kit made by an old company either called mini models or mini hobby, not sure which. At any rate, I'm building the version that flew the first F-14's. I'm looking for a flight deck decal set for all of the striping, etc. Any help is appreciated.

I have the same kit but the post-refit version! I plan to start mine after this summer as the Big E was for her last deployment. Will you be doing a build log?

I am going to be updating my model of Enterprise in order to make some drawings for her. I need to flush out some details before I can do that. I could use some help with details if anyone is amicable. Does anyone have some good photos or drawings of the early RIM-7A Sea Sparrow Launcher? The one with four launch boxes in the middle and two one each end? Here's my crappy 700th version:

I just completed my 1/350 Nimitz (my first model in 10 years) and used Mark's Starfighter Decals for the entire airwing, I put 90 aircraft on her. I cannot say enough about his decals, you won't regret the purchase. Absolutely AWESOME! I'm getting ready to embark on building the 1/350 CVN 65. Now can we all harp on Mark to make his 1/700 CVN 65 decals in 1/350 scale too :wave_1:

Yeah, here's hoping. No that GMM's had bit the dust.

That is a good point actually. How do current builders replicate the special decals (BIG E, Hormuz Highway, etc, etc) now that the GMM set is out of stock forever?

I posted a topic about this. If Mark from STARFIGHTER decals can generate enough significant interest, he would be willing to produce a 1/350 set for the Big E. He has a great set in 1/700. Shoot him an e-mail and join the coalition I'm trying to build for my own greedy purposes :wink_3.gif

Anybody know what these pipes or ducts are, and what they are for?

Not sure, but I have a few good pics that show it there as early as the mid to late 70's. They are semicircular tube with about a two to three inch gap between them and the hull. I would assume they are not original and are associated with an upgraded radar/weapons platform.

Silly question, but what color did u paint the flight deck. I'm building the Enterprise with the beehive island and am not sure on the deck color. I;ve seen everything from black to varying shades of gray,

Yes you have to paint the flight deck. Beyond that what color you pant it is completely up to you. The problem lies in the material used to paint the deck. It's not a paint at all but a material that is rolled on and hardens to give a lot of traction to the deck. It starts out really black but as time goes on it turns a light gray. It is generally only good for a couple cruises before it needs replacing. So if you are a real stickler you need to choose a time frame and figure out when it was coated prior to that time frame and then use your best guess. Or you could just pic a shade that makes you happy and go with that.

I have seen various colors used on flight decks from black to varying shades of gray. What is the correct color for a flight deck?

Hi,

Your question is in the CVN 65 thread - please post there for further questions and to see replies (well, reply) to your question.

Try gunship gray. It is pretty close to what the deck will look like most of the time. As mentioned, non-skid, the roll on material, does not stay dark very long.

USS Enterprise (CVN 65) made her final voyage today to Newport News Shipbuilding for defueling and deactivation. Big E, you served your #USNavy well!

Damn you for posting a picture like that! Posting a picture of Enterprise with no mast, weapons, or airwing is like posting a picture of your grandmother in a bikini... you just don't do it! Better to remember her the way she was, rather than see it all stripped down in reality.
