I saw Airfix's 1/600 Moskva helo carrier on the shelves of one of my local hobby shops, and I was wondering if I should pick it up, or not bother. Is there another kit (in 1/700, preferably) of the Moskva class out there?

I built Combrig 1:700 Moskva VTOL some time ago. Kit is very old and I put a lot of effort into it, lots of sanding and putty. http://www.modelshipgallery.com/gallery/dio/ru/sbg-700-az/az-index.html

As for Arifix. It is horrible if built out of the box. But if you'll find WEM 1/600 Moskva PE - it is possible to build good looking model if you OK with odd scales.

The Airfix/MPC kit is a mess, but as already mentioned, with WEM PE, it can look good. Still not really good decals to help it, but it's there. Kudos to you folks that build in 1/700. I just can't do it. I'm far too clumsy for those tiny bits.

I have to pipe in here because I seem to remember another company,s version of this ship.Am I mistaken or didn,t AURORA do a MOSKVA(MOSCOW) in a scale close to 1/400? I seem to remember building one and thinking at the time(She is unusual and in her own way quite beautiful as warships go.)Am I right or just dreaming again??? commodore4

According to Rajen's List, Aurora made one in 1/600 scale: http://www.quuxuum.org/rajens_list/ship ... roraMoscow

Just by way of general interest one of the reasons I built a 1:128 scale
scratch built working model of the Moskva was just that it was so unusual
and to my knowledge { at the time of build} has not been attempted in
large scale working form . Moskva and Leningrad where not graceful ships
like so many Soviet warships of the period but striking in appearance non
the less . The drawings used initially was some what basic but as I was
approaching the last part of the build I managed to locate a set of builders
drawings which where an eye opener . Here is the result of the effort .

Plans like this, is this accurate to your model or did you have better drawings?

With the drawings I had what do you think of the ship lines?

Hi Mick The body plan seems to be the same as the one I have . Moskva has that unusual hull form aft with the pronounced overhang to the deck edge. There were a number of aspects of the build that where difficult , the stern beneath the flight deck and VDS deploying recess in particular .

Dave I was just going over some old posts I collected and forgot all about this one.
A question for you, do you have any more pictures of your Moskva? If so could you post a few to show of your model please.
Do you still have a set of plans for her also?

Hi, I’m reaching out to Dave, don’t know if you still look at this post but I wanted to find out if you still have the builders drawings for the Moskva, I’m planing a 1/350 scale scratch build.

Interestingly, I am planning the same. I have projects for Moskva and Kiev classes, if only I can get decent plans.

cheers

I found a website that has some useful drawings and photos I think it might be enough to build a pretty good model of this ship.
