I have the old resin PitRoad 3 deck Kaga in the stash. I'll never be able to sell it (unless someone here wants to make me an offer I can't refuse!). Curious if anyone seen the PE for the Fujimi 3 deck Kaga, and the possibilities of it being used on the old Pit Road kit. It's a nice model for it's day, but a lot of stuff was done in solid white metal, and is in need of upgrading.

I only know about this one. More photos here.

Thanks for the links!

jp1999 seems to have seen it. Not sure if this works with the old Pitroad kit though.

As I have both the Hasegawa and Tom's sets for my Akagi I will probably pass on this one myself.

So you're reluctant to post it in your ships for sale thread in the Trading post?

Does anyone know how it compares to the Fujimi 3-deck Kaga?

If there's not that much difference I might be interested.

EDITED TO ADD: Never mind, I didn't realize it was the resin, Hi-mold version.

Also there was a rear seat gunner on Enterprise that took a photo of Kaga after the plane he was in dive bombing attack. When he was getting the photo developed on the ship a officer came in and saw it and confiscated it. It was not in the Midway report and has never been seen since. So he took it for himself and it is in his private collection. .

I've heard that story before, Dennis. It's a shame that the photo never surfaced.

Interesting story.
I wonder if any aerial photo of Kaga (taken by B-17 crews) exists. I have never seen such a picture.

If it does exist, it's probably deep in an archive, somewhere.

Thanks. :) So it seems that we do not have a good documentation for her deck markings during Battle of Midway. ''Shattered Sword: The Untold Story of the Battle of Midway'' confirms that no photographs of Kaga from 4 June have survived. According to this book it is presumed that Kaga had the same configuration as Hiryu (a freestanding hinomaru unenclosed by a white background).

The logic is that since the ships operated in two ship divisions, the division markings would mimic each other to a certain extent.

Yes, I agree. But it would be more logical if two flagships of carrier divisions (Akagi and Hiryu) had similar configuration of hinomaru (completely enclosed in a white rectangleand spanning the width of the flight deck), two remaining ships also similar. For same reason Japanese used some specific combination.

So, my Fujimi 1/350 Kaga kit arrived from HLJ soon after ordering. This kit inspired me due to Tetra releasing what looks like a really nice detail up set and also what I think is a very unique aircraft carrier. I ordered the Tetra detail up set limited addition from Hobby Search, they had the best pricing over everyone else, then the Fujimi kit. Detail up set was a April release according to Hobby Search's website as they were taking reservations in late March. I contacted them a few days ago and they got back to me this morning...I've been told they are looking into the supplier, assuming Tetra, about the delay in getting these kits. I mentioned in my email that everyone else already have this detail set in their stock, for example Kraken Hobbies.

Does anyone here already purchased this detail set or are you going through the same issues as I am?

Thank you

Hobby Search has just received Kaga Detail Up Set and has it in stock. :)

It seems to be a great set, not cheap but worth buying.

Are there any pictures around of the Fujimi Kaga kit with their own etch sets? I bought them all anyway, but haven't decided if there's any "need" for buying another set as well.

Hi, I ordered the factory etch sets A & B with the kit, the only part that is not included are both rear supports for the flight deck, being drilled for weight reduction. The Tetra option looks perfect but then you do have a bit of price difference. Had I not ordered the factory etch I would get the Tetra set asap.

(maybe someone will release a "rear support columns" set like was done with the 1/350 Akagi)

Thanks, got shipment confirmation and should be here in a couple of weeks, it was their customs causing delays.

I agree the set is very nice and should make the Kaga kit museum piece when completed and in my opinion worth the price. Looking forward to this build but need to finish my two Yamatos which has been delayed due my sailing schedule and also aftermarket parts release dates for my 1/200 Yamato getting pushed back all the time.

On the 1/350 Akagi, what are parts AH2 in reality? They look like odd stools, but some builds i've seen have em with etched legs. (Etched legs which are not in the Eduard set, nor set 'B' or the super set by Hasegawa)

I'm usually quite ok with parts recognition, But these have go me beat....

Got a photo, or scan of the instructions with that part?
