Hello all,
I am scratch building my island for Connie and am looking for any pictures of 09 and 010 decks. It looks like these have been modified during her SLEP’s and I need pictures of her in 2003.
Does anyone have any pictures they could share or email me, please. In particular a clear overhead shot of tharen around the sps49 radar and just aft of it.
I’ll try and get some photos up through photobucket.

Trumpeter 1/700 USS Kitty Hawk CV-63 & Revell Germany Reissue 1/542 USS Forrestal CV-59 will be out in June!!

Cybermodeler.com updated their kit release list the other day with both on it for June release.
https://www.cybermodeler.com/special/ki ... cale.shtml
For some reason I can not get Trumpeter's website to come up in any browser, to verify the 1/700 CV-63. But I have seen in most cases that when cybermodeler posts a release month for a Trumpeter kit, it's usually accurate.
And Revell Germany has the CV-59 kit on the site.
https://www.revell.de/en/products/model ... 05156.html

I plan on getting the 1/700 CV-63. But probably not the 1/542 CV-59. I already have 6 of the kits(1 built, 1 mostly built, & 4 unbuilt) when they were originally issued by Revell in 90's

Hope this is good news for those who have been waiting...

Thomas

I am planning to build each of the American Cold War supercarriers by using the old Arii/Otaki kits in 1/800 scale. Unfortunately, there are some glaring problems with some of these kits. For example, the Ranger is missing the forward sponsons entirely. Therefore, I would need to find someone who can print these in 3-D. Anyway, if anyone knows of someone who can help, please let me know.

Bill

Steve Larson (Model Monkey https://modelmonkey.wixsite.com/modelmo ... 487-1-1250 ) is working up a set of sponsons for the Forrestal's. He will get those done sometime in the next few months I am told. So, patience my friend and welcome to the I want to build an accurate Forrestal Class Carrier club. With Steve's Islands and a set of his sponsons I plan to do a kit bash of the 1/700 Kitty Hawk Class ships to build a 1/700 Ranger 1968 ish. One day I plan to do the same thing for a 1/350 Ranger budget allowing.

Good Luck,

Mark

Hi Bill,

Steve would have to elaborate on which scale he is going to do them in first. I have plans to build a 1/700 Ranger and a 1/350 Ranger. Eventually I will do all 4 Forrestal's in 1/700 scale so that is what I asked for.

It will be a while. Steve is a man of great skills and those skills are in demand!

Mark

This is the WIP America flightdeck. He says that still haven't found anyone that can scan the Floating Drydock plans. Sill hard at work on Kitty Hawk and BigE. So America is still down the road at this time.

I think some people here are interested in differences between Trumpeter kits: USS Kitty Hawk and USS Constellation .

1/350 Trumpeter 05619 USS Kitty Hawk CV-63

1/350 Trumpeter 05620 USS Constellation CV-64

As you can see except instructions, decals and airwings (Kitty: 12 X F/A-18F, 5 x EA-6B, 2 x E-2C, 2 x SH-60; Connie: 6 x F-14D, 5 x EA-6B, 9 x F/A-18C, 2 x E-2C, 2 x SH-60) these two kits are almost identical. Only two main sprues are different: A, B (CV-63) and C, D (CV-64) (sponsons, some elements of islands, etc.)

Additionally Merit JFK kit that is quite different (only hangar deck, sprue T and sprue Z are the same):

1/350 Merit 65306 USS John F. Kennedy CV-67

So today I got the Trumpeter 1/360 Kitty Hawk and the Mk1 detail set delivered.

I'm on a Cold War kick, and would like to backdate her to late 80s early 90s. Besides replacing the RAM and replacing the airwing, what else would I need to change?

It really depends on what year you want to build. The kit can represent KH from around 1991. She finished "SLEP" in July of 1991. After that the physical appearance changes were mostly the SATDOMES and as you pointed out CIWIS to RAM and things like that. The sponsons on the stern and along side of the Island as modeled in the kit should work. Prior to that SLEP, the stern sponsons were more like the Conny and the underside of the sponsons for the Sea Sparrow were rounded not squared off. There are 3D Printed parts available for that:

https://www.shapeways.com/product/R4J7B ... d=59442243

The Conny kit might be a more accurate Kitty Hawk for the period between 1983 and 1991, but I would need to do more research.

Check here for pics:

http://www.navsource.org/archives/02/63a.htm

Check here for a list of which air wing was embarked with what aircraft:

http://www.gonavy.jp/CV-CV63-01f.html

Lastly, if you are going to deviate from the kit and you want it to be accurate, Ray's http://www.stillmotionsphotographics.com dvd's are a must! He has a couple of Kitty Hawk/ Conny picture albums that will be very helpful. You can buy direct or they are available at Freetime Hobbies:

https://freetimehobbies.com/search.php? ... t+Type=DVD

Good Luck,

Mark

Any updates on the Trumpeter 1/700 Constellation? Any ideas what time period it might represent?

I was also wondering when both the 1/700 Connie and JFK would get released. The cybermodeler site stopped tracking them.

I think Connie will be in her last configuration similar to what Trumpeter did with the 1/350 kit which is a post 1993 SLEP configuration. Apart from adding SATDOMES, I am not sure what the physical appearance differences there are from the post 1984 Overhaul. I am looking to do the first Hornet cruise which was 1985 with CVW-14.

I guess we wait.
