Could someone let me know what the color number is for the 'red' antifoul for USS Constellation please. As she was in 2003.

Regard

Pawly.

Hi Pawly,

I use Tamiya Spray "Dull Red" TS-33. I was quite pleased by the way it turned out on my JFK.

Good Luck,

Mark

Thanks Mark,

I'll need to get a few litres of it as it is for my 1/72 model of Connie.

Regards

Pawly

Whoops!

I forgot the scale of your project! Well, in the states you can take a color sample to a Hardware Store and get it matched for a couple of gallons of house paint. Wonder if that would work?

If so, get a can of the Tamiya Dull Red, spray it on a sample of the material you used on the hull, and have them match it. It might work?

Good luck,

Mark

I am not sure. I will drag out my 1/350 scale Ranger plans and take a look to do a comparison.

Did you find out Mark about the openings?

Hi Red,

Assuming that everything is scaled correctly, the Ranger opening is 5.5cm and the Kitty Hawk kit is 6cm. When I lay the hull of Kitty Hawk over the plans they line up so I think that is a correct assessment.

So there you have it.

Mark

gtbred, it is a rather big model. I will be getting her belly wet for leak testing in a few weeks. I hope to have the hull and all openings done and painted by this time. I will post pictures when this has happened.

Thanks Mark, maybe after Labor Day I will make my mind up to get a kit to make Indy.

Hello all

I got a 1/720 Indi yesterday second hand for cheap and started to have a look/go on her last night. Looking at pics it seems like Italerie was aiming for an early 80ties look...not exactly sure though. What really strikes me is that the island seems not to be even vagely close to the real thing. The port side especially does not seem to look like on any real Forrestal class carrier. Are there any conversion kits out there to address that? I checked Steve's (modelmonkey) site but he does not cover the later carriers...so no quick and easy 3D island! :-( Any help would be highly appriciated...also links to potential build threats and how others fixed those issues...

thanks
Uwe

Hello all, here is a link to pictures I have taken along the way so far. It has been a little slower than I had planned but as most people know, life is full of choices, surprises, sickness, etc, etc.
Comments welcome as is advice.
I am still working on how to post pictures, I hope this works.

I've long interpreted the Italeri kit as kind of a composite Forrestal-class ship in the 1977-1980 range, prior to SLEP modernization. That time period may not necessarily match the aircraft you get in the kit, but it squares with the ship's configuration as best I can find.

These kits have their slip-ups and clumsy areas (a catapult track that runs over onto an elevator?), but overall they look fairly good and if you do homework on the particular ship you want to build the Italeri kit is a good basis. I have one upstairs that I am very, very slowly turning into Forrestal as built, and a long time ago I built one as Independence in the 1970s, and if you make a few corrections and add some photoetch the kit dresses up really nicely.

I know Model Monkey has some parts in the works and when those become available it'll make turning the Italeri kit into a showpiece a lot easier.

Gregg from Shapeways e-mail me. The America island in 1/720 came out great. He will be able to upscale the island soon to 1/700 and 1/350. Perfect for my build. :woo_hoo: :thumbs_up_1:

Wow!

That is nice work. What era is it? I plan to modify my America. My scratch build has some flaws and this will make a nice upgrade. I have to rework CAT One as well.

I think 1964-1976 Mark. Could be wrong. Just a guess.
