Nice work Steve!

With this Island:

https://www.shapeways.com/product/KMRL4 ... 1&li=shops

You could do a 1/350 scale USS America CVA-66 by kit bashing a 1/350 scale Constellation Kit + JFK Kit. I may get around to that someday. Too many projects, not enough time..........

I believe that the USS America CVA66 was the only supper carrier to be built with a sonar dome. And also a center bow anchor to clear the sonar dome. I also believe the sonar equipment and the dome were removed in the 80's. I'm building a 1:350 model of the America using a Trumpeter Constellation hull. Since Constellation didn't have sonar, no sonar dome. Can anyone help me with a photo of America's sonar dome (which she had at her commissioning in 1965.

Thanks,
Walt

Would anyone have any detail shots of the LRLS bar on the fantail? Specifically the vertical yellow bar that actually holds the lights. I’m making a 1/144 diorama that will include this and am looking for some detail photos to help with scratch-building. Thank you for any input!

Thank you! But I am looking for the LRLS on the fantail. Not the IFLOLS. It's the vertical yellow bar in this picture, but I'm hoping for closer pics since I'm trying to do this at 1/144 scale.

The Floating Drydock sells a photo DVD with several decent close up pics of this area.

Multiple sources tells that the Forrestals had 3 Sea Sparrow launchers by the mid 1980's, but did the Saratoga too carry 3 such launchers?
There was one on the port side forward, one aft starboard near the aft Phalanx CIWS but the 3rd I do not know.
I've collected photos of Saratoga and Forrestal and they seem only carried 2.

There's one STARBOARD side forward and one port side aft. The port side forward was a Phalanx only. I would agree with there being only two Seasparrow launchers.

I mix that two words often...
So seems like only Ranger and Independence had 3 launchers? The 3rd one being on the right or starboard side aft, after the boat/aircraft crane where the two 5"/54 Mark 18 guns were?
Interesting that the other two ships did not receive the 3rd Sea Sparrow launcher.

Forrestal and Saratoga had some sort of large brownish-greenish cylinders stored there which I do not know what.

If I am not mistaken the first two Forrestals received two sea sparrow missile launchers while the last two three.

The large brownish-greenish cylinders are likely canisters that they stored spare jet engines in. They often stored them outside on the sponsons.

Thanks! I see they are frequently moved with various numbers located there in various positions (parallel or perpendicular to the flight deck)

Other question:
Do somebody know the colour scheme of the USN warships of the 1970's-80's?
