I know that is an old question, but are there any news about the AA on the Hosho?
I build the 1939 Hosho kit and would go for 6 13mm twins.

And what is the color of the Biplanes? It seems they where silver with red tails in the 30s.
But the instruction calls for a green camo. But in this case I don`t trust the instructions.

Greetings Christian

Hello,
Does anyone know in which months of 1944 years showed up on Japanese aircraft carriers green camouflage?

Regards

Jarekk

I'm working on Hassgawa's new Shinano kit, so this is great information and very timely. I've been trying to figure out what colors to use and settled in the Type 2/Type 22 pattern but am still working on finding the right paints without having to trying mixing them.

The post is dated 2009. I imagine the project never came to fruition.

I'm building Aoshimas Ryujo as 1942 Version with the great pe parts from Tetra Model Works.
My question is, they supply two decks for the bow of the flight deck, one in wood, and one in steel.
I saw pics of the model with a steel deck, but Aoshima make a all wood flight deck.
Someone knows which one is correct?

Greetings Christian

I'm not sure. Not enough information available. However, the Gakken IJN perfect guide favors metal:

What a pitty there is still no 1/350 Shinano and Taiho, also Soryu. The only thing makes me happy this year is that Hasegawa will release 1/350 Hiyo.

My Ryujo comes along well. As the pics are rare, where there any binoculars? I would assume they where next to the bridge.

Looking very good.

According to this illustration, there is one 12cm binocular mount on each side.

Thanks again Dan.
Sadly this platform isn't anymore on my ship. It was removed during one of the refits.
But I can try to put it on the deck behind the original position.

Greetings Christian

Greetings all,

It appears fans of the IJN Shinyo now have a new kit available other than the out of production resin versions from Waveline, etc.

Shapeways: 1/700 Shinyo from COB Constructs and Miniatures

The model is probably complete upon printing and delivery, but at least one gets to add the PE and air group from various aftermarket kits.

As the caption reads .......

Is it possible Chuyo was painted black? Nitta Maru had a black hull, tho she did see service as a troop/supply ship briefly before her conversion to CVE, which was rather quickly done. The Aoshima kit box art suggests black.... Also being that she sank before 1944, it would seem unlikely this camo pattern was ever applied, and given her fairly constant route to Truk, when might that have happened? Seems unlikely the Japanese would have had the luxury of doing that at that time.

Just saw these posts (been out of town).

Good news about a new Shinyo kit. THx for posting.

While I agree that camo for Chuyo is a near impossibility, I doubt she wore a black hull. As a commissioned warship, she would have been repainted grey at some point; certainly upon conversion.

I thought Tetra also made a metal deck portion. Certainly, Rainbow does.
