I am building two 1/350 CVL's and the first finally looked like a ship for the first time tonight. The second will be in dazzle and will take a little longer to get to this point.

Fantastic! Love the Yorktown in the background as well.

Answering questions, 1/350 scratch. Thanks for the offer of plans and ref's but have too much of both, for example do not have a clue as to how to do the bracing under the stacks and on the island tower - makes you appreciate PE!

A view from 700 feet (camera 2 feet above the concrete sea). I put the Yorktown in the picture again because the CVL's just keep impressing me as SMALL. It was a hazy morning in AZ and the picture quality is really hurt by the absence of direst sunlight.

Is it possible to get plans of a CVL?. Would be interesting to build the Dedalo (ex- USS Cabot). She was homeplate for me for some time.

The Floating Drydock (icon on front page of this site) has 1/192 plans of CVL-24 Belleau Wood.

Jim, beautiful looking ships you've got there! Someday I'll have to make the trip out to Peoria to see them myself in person! I could even bring along the digi-cam and take a few pics, but I (unfortunantly) don't see that happening in the near-ish future. Keep up the good work, and keep us updated!

Excellent work Jim.

I'm thinking about building the USS Wright CVL-49 but after she was converted into a command ship (CC-2) as shown here: http://www.navsource.org/archives/02/024907.jpg

Makes for an interesting twist on the carrier models...

Just a FYI, we updated the Shipcamouflage.com CVL page with links to the camouflage measures and design sheets.

Hitting the homestretch so I thought a few photos would be interesting. The funnel bracing was solved with a brass PE beam. Still need to do large air search radar, large crane, island tower and PLANES.

Those are two beautiful ships you've got there Jim, can't wait to see them next to the rest of your fleet! Keep up the good work. Whats next?

I am currently attempting a 1/192 scale cvl-25 with plans from FD. Does anyone have any pictures or links that show the island? The plans are a little vague and I can use all the help I can get. thanks Greg

Finally done, plenty of errors, mistakes and heresies but it was fun. I did have to finish before DML comes out with the plastic version.
