HELLO FROM FRANCE !

I would like to build a model in 1/350 scale of the HMS ARK ROYAL IV (1955-1978).
Could you help me to find a serious plans or official plans for this fabulous aircraft carrier. I would like to build it after her phantomisation of 1967.
Of course, I will be pleased if I find only a good plans for initial design.
Thanks
Sebastien

Hi,

I used the old fujimi 1/700 scale kit of the Ark Royal in 1950's mode, and got some 1/700 scale plans of her post 1970, Used Skywave/Dragon spares from type 42's for the double bedstead radars, phantoms from the Skywave scramble set, modified the Gannets that came with the kit to AEW3.

It turned out OK, plastic card for the flight deck,

A year later I did an upgraded Eagle which worked better.

But it's worth a try, as I doubt there weill ever be one produced of her as she was in the 1970's in kit form.

I converted my 1978 Ark IV from the Fujimi Eagle kit.

How I did it was to replace the whole deck, fit sponsons, rebuild the island and use WEM aircraft. My Ark has a deckload of 8 Phantoms, 6 Bucaneers, 2 Gannets, 3 Sea Kings and 2 Wessex. I took liferafts and vehicles from an Italeri carrier, I made decals for deck markings using Xtradecal sheets of the appropriate colours. Pennant numbers are available from Skytrex. FAA markings are available from Starfighter decals.

I had the masts custom-made in PE, then used GMM PE for radar and other antennae.

Regarding plans, full sets are available from the Brass Foundary but they are very expensive. As the hull is more or less ok, I bought just the deck plan and relied on photos for the rest.

One day I shall do Eagle as well.

Cheers,

Rob

At the aircraft restoration group I volunteer with, one of our vehicles is a 1950's aircraft carrier deck tug, which served on Ark Royal. I can take photographs if anyone's interested - to match the aircraft we've painted it in US Navy markings

To whom are you addressing your post? In any case, there's no 350th scale Ark Royal right now, unfortunately.

Hello,
I would be very interested about the subject, I'm collecting pictures about the FAA deck stuff from 50s to 70s. In particular I'm looking for some material about the aircraft tug used in the middle 70s, the FG1 era, just to be clear. I'm going to finish my 1/72 diorama with a Bucc and a Phantom on the deck. Can you help me?

TIA
Dino

Hi!!! :thumbs_up_1:

Read what Ludwig told in some other thread:

<<<<<<Every time I want some plans of a British ship , I write or fax to 'National Maritime Museum' Greenwich, Londen SE10 9NF tel.0044 20 8858 4422 Fax 0044 20 8312 6632. http://www.nmm.ac.uk
They will send you detailled info of the ship you are looking after , for example: K class Destroyer HMS Kelly 1938; they have sent me details of:Profile , Forecastle deck , Upper deck , Lower Deck , Hold , Sections , Docking plan , Lines , Shell expansion 9 plans in total. All this is in scale 1/48 with the prices mentioned. You can choose which plans you need and order them. These plans do not come cheap , but they are worth every penny.
I would say give it a try , and order info on HMS Ark Royal.

Regards,

Ludwig>>>>>>>>>>

Hope it can help a lot!
Regards: Jimmy

Hello everybody from France !

Many thanks for all the differents informations that I could find on this post
Thank you very much Jimmy from Brazil for the link. I will explore it but I have heard that the cost is very expensive.
For the modellers who like so much Royal navy of the 70 to nowdays, I could suggest to visit the web site of Jecobin ship plans.
Excellents Royal Navy plans, serious and not very expensive.
Unfortunately, they haven't got any plans for HMS Ark royal IV...

Excellent pic from XYY11231108. Good looking !

Best regards for all

sebastien

Hi

I bought a full set of Ark Royal IV plans from the National Maritime Museum Greenwich for GBP116.oo which is not too bad. I would love to make a model of this ship in a large scale. What puts me off is finding 1/350 aircraft such as sea vixens, whirlwinds, sea hawks etc

Can anyone help with these?

I'm also interested in finding these aircraft in 1/200 scale

Thanks and regards

Hi all, this has been a very useful thread for me as I too am in the process of converting the Fujimi Ark to a phantom carrier, and its proving to be a phantom menace.....

My problem is a good shot of the deck shape around the starboard side aft of the Island but before the crane mounting. I have angels pics and shots butthey dont show quite how is works out. Has anyone got a good shot of this from above where you can see how it tapers aft to the deck park? I am replaing the deck completely and have made two so far neither of which I am satisifed are accurate.

I have already done the Eagle, thinking to do the easier model first! It looks nice full of Sea Vixens, Buccs, Gannets and Seakings etc. How I pray for a Scimitar or two though.

I have been trying to obtain a set of plans for HMS Ark Royal IV (originally designed/named HMS Audacious) for a long time with no success.

I have tried to follow up on the suggestions, previously offered by members here, for the National Maritime Museum and Brass Foundary without finding any information on these plans.

Does anyone know of a DIRECT link to these plans sites (not the general Index where you have to trawl through thousands of titles) so that I can buy a set please?

If anyone has purchased a set and has finished with them then I would be very interested to buy them. I would be grateful if you could pm me if you can help here.

Thanks in advance

Best Wishes

Mike
