CAD model of beehive started by using Revell 1/720 as template. Needs tweaking to make proportions right.

Main island scratch build started as well.

Hi Juergen,

Really nice work. I will be interested in buying a 1/700 scale Island if you offer it up for sale! Maybe you can do a 3D Mast as well. A late 60's fit would be really great!!

Well done,

Mark

I'll try my very best.
But also I would need more pictures or dimensions.
Most likely, I will just offer the CAD data, not 3D prints.

Regarding late 60's fit: Which antennas were used at which time frame?
It seems to me, that more modifications were done, as Jon has pointed out in his listing (Aug 22, 2017).

So,

Here is a photo of Enterprise shortly after commissioning. Notice that there is one cross bar.

Here is another shot later in the 60's. Notice that there are two cross bars. So sometime in 1964 Enterprise went through an yard period where I think that work was accomplished.

She carried that configuration with a few additional antennae until the major overhaul in 1980.

Hi,

Found several antenna configurations during that timeframe.

Antenna at port-stern location changed from round to rectangular shape.
Antenna domes temporarily attached.

Could not find pictures showing those differences better. Also exact timeframe is unknown to me.

So you would be interested in the 1969 configuration?

Hi Juergen,

Ideally, I would want to do the 1968 cruise but I would take what I can get.

Thanks,

Mark

I can do any, as long as I have enough references (and time...).

And all shapes except major dimensions will be estimations.

Progress so far:

Anyone aware, if this dented shape is valid for the old island as well?

This dented shape is the flag box. You can see flag cables at the top of the picture. On the port side of the island, the flag box was mounted on the inside of the railing, that same as your picture shows.
On the port side, it was actually mounted exterior to the railing. I don't know if it still was after the '79-'83 yard period, so you might want to check.

Paul,

Thanks for clarification.
Found out that the flag box was also on the starbord side until the end.

I thought on port side it was a protection for stairs, as another modeler has done it.
Will change it soon.

Juergen

Hi Jurgen,

Any update on your CVAN-65 Island Project? I would very much like to buy one if you get it done. I am looking to combine it with the Forces of Valor CVN-65 model and back date it to the 1960's.

Thanks,

Mark

Hi Mark,

Unfortunately, there is no progress so far.
I was working on the hull and on the island for the 2001 version.

Currently there are some tanks and submarines on the workbench. So it might take a while before CAD design starts again.

Sorry for that.

Juergen

This is 1/700.
Unfortunately only the Forces of Valor Enterprise is 1/700, and it's a pre assemled and painted model 2001 version.

The Island looks really good! I would like to buy one from you when you get it done. It looks like the only way to get a 1/700 scale CVAN-65 is your island + the forces of valor model.
