Hi Jim,

Or may be one could consider the Mini Hobby Models kit (H-80502) that (so I read, at least) should portray the USS Enterprise CVN-65 in the original, As-Built configuration.
...
Are you aware of someone decribing in detail the modifications that should be made to the sponsons to correct them ?...

Hi Luca,

Several months back, someone posted a thread re this same question of back dating to the beehive island in the main forum. He ended up working out a trade with someone else who bought the Minihobby kit but wanted to build a newer Big-E. Perhaps you can try something similar...

As for conversion and all the details to correct to the original CVAN-65... Detail and Scale vol 39 has some of it described in the Model Builder section. I have seen some postings here and there... not all in one place. In the picture gallery, Jean Louis Couston built a 1:400 Otaki beehive Big-E. Perhaps you can contact him and see if he knows the answer to your question.

Hope this helps...

Renato didn't notice this thread and started a new one, so I'm moving his post here and deleting the dupe:

Hi all,
I'm Renato from Torre Annunziata, a village very close to Naples (Italy).
It's my first time to write on forum......because I discovered it just last week !!.
I'm building the 1/350 Tamiya Enterprise model kit during the war against Afghanistan and Talibans (2001 year - operation Enduring Freedom).
During this period, the Big E carried CW8 (tail code AJ) with "last cruise" for F-14 of VF14 "TOPHATTERS" and VF-41 "BLACK ACES".
On the web, I found tons of great pics of ship and squadrons and so I have a clear idea what I'll do.
The big problem are the squadron's decal.
I thought to print all decals and, so, I worked many month on web and my pc to find the right decal sheets and reduce them to correct scale (for ex. by 1/48 to 1/350).
Now all the files are ready to print!!!
.....but I don't Know how to print.
There is someone can help me?
Ciao
Renato

Renato, there are printers that can print decals; I have an ALPS, but they are rare and expensive. There are others that will do this as well, but you might want to ask in the main forum.

If anyone is wondering where the model of Enterprise that was at the National Air and Space Museum for many years is, it's at the National Museum of Naval Aviation in Pensacola, Fl. They've also got some other very beautiful models. :cool_2:

Luca,
She does have perforated catwalks. I am actually thinking about doing the same with mine when I get time. Tom from Tom's Modelworks actually sent me a set of catwalks to try. I'm not sure how I am going to tackle that one yet.

I wonder how much it'd cost to get a CNC master cut for a resin set... Hmmmm

I hope somebody can tell me what those white lines are for on the flight deck next to the catapult? I assume they are for lining up aircraft? You know what happens when you ass/u/me though. Sorry, can't remember where I saw the picture.[/url]

I think some are called "foul lines," as in safety - don't cross the line or die.

Hopefully not stating the obvious - be sure to click the links as there are massively large hi-resolution versions available.

If you need another "angle" or something, let me know, and I can see what I can find.

The Long Red/White or Solid Yellow lines that run parallel to the Catapults are the Foul Lines.

The small white hash marks located near the track end are to assist with aircraft turning and alignment with the catapult shuttle.

Hi guys,

I'd like to get the experts opinions on the Trumpy/MHM 1/350 Enterprise.

I'd like to do one with the beehive, and I know Revell's 1/400 is...not good. And while Tamiya's seems to be the standard, it is sans beehive, and I haven't seen any backdate kits for it.

I've found some of the Trumpy kits on ebay, and it looks like it has the beehive. I was wondering if the kit is any good? Fit, details, etc....

Thanks

Bob

It is cheaper than the Tamiya version, but the quality of the kit is accordingly decreased, but is still acceptable if you add aftermarket parts to it. I have heard that the beehive is not a very good representation, however.

So I just got a 1/400 Enterprise (the Revell/Aurora one), and I want to do it up right. First off, I'm not getting a 1/350 - I am on a budget. I was considering Starfighter Decals for the ship - they have the early-E deck markings, and I was going to pick up the Arii 1/400 US Naval Aircraft. Anyone have experience with these products? Your input is greatly appreciated.

I recently picked up the Aurora/Revell 1/400 Enterprise (I know, I know). I am limited by budget constraint to this model, so I have the following in mind:
-Starfighter Decals early ship markings for the Big-E
-Arii 1/400 US Naval Aircraft to replace the current crop
-Generic PE for railings and hatches.
I haven't given much thought to the radars and such yet.

Any input or suggestions are welcomed.

I hear the re-release of the Enterprise has new tooled aircraft. How good/bad are they?
