Re: Calling all IJN Kongo class fans
I was going to say that Haruna also received an extensive AA upgrade in July, 1944, like Kongo, and that my likely guess was that was then they were added. The sisters would like get the same upgrade.
She did return to Kure in and get repaired in Jan 1945 but, at that point, I doubt she received any further upgrades. No more fuel for operations. No designated an AA battery at that point, either.
Great croppings, Jose.

Re: Calling all IJN Kongo class fans
Hello to the IJN Kongo fans and fans of my recently posted (on modelwarships.com) 1:350 Fujimi Kongo. When I complete a build (I do so exclusively in 1:350), I photograph it and then display the model for several months in a glass case devoted to many different models at a local hobby shop (Talbot's Toyland in San Mateo, California). That is where my Kongo currently resides. When it has been replaced with another model (I'm currently finishing up the Trumpeter USS Hornet, CV-8), I will retrieve the Kongo and post some additional detailed photos of the superstructure and AA guns on this site. Thanks for your praise and encouragement. -- Robert Apfelzweig

That would be wonderful, Robert, though I think a full photo spread posted to the gallery is the best thing to do. Details here are always welcome.

Considerable differences between 1/350 Haruna and Kongo?
Are there? Essentially the same kit but different funnels, bridge stuff?

The deck is completely different, the aircraft deck, the main turrets too plus hundreds different small details. You cant have a IJN Haruna with just different bridge and different funnels.Felix C wrote:Are there? Essentially the same kit but different funnels, bridge stuff?

Re: Calling all IJN Kongo class fans
Yuriy: The link works for me and both builds look great. Are you building the Aoshima or Fujimi version of Kongo? I can't tell. Either way, you've had to some work as the casemates are straight, and there is no additional molding on them. Please consider sending photos of the finished build to our gallery.
Felix C: To the casual eye, it does seem that the Kongo sisters are close to identical but, in truth, there is much subtle variation between them, as Atma indicates. That was one of the shortcomings of both the original Fujimi 1/700 kits as well as the following Hasegawa versions. The brand new Fujimi toolings have gone a long way to differentiate between the sisters.

Re: Calling all IJN Kongo class fans
Thanks!
I am using Fujimi deLux PE set mostly. In addition have been used Lion Roar IJN doors (fujimi doors IMHO oversized), IJN portholes from FlyHawk and type89 AA guns from Voyager(Fujimi-s plastic details of this guns are very small).
25mm AA also will be replaced by LionRoar PE guns
I hope as a result to build good model.

A complete set of PE for the upcoming IJK Kirishima and wooden deck sheet is also planned for late September following the release of IJN Kirishima 1942.
