Almost certainly, judging by the base and the thin foam wrappers around the more fragile sprues.

My 1/200th Mikasa is coming soon. Using the tracking reference shows it has arrived in the UK and is being assessed for Customs charges at the moment. It's likely to be the most expensive kit I have ever bought.

Looking forward to comparing its details with my photos of the builder's model of the Canopus class HMS Vengeance. Both built in the same yard and within years of each other.

There is a major difference in the shape of forward and aft 6 inch casemates.

Looking forward for your impressions ! :woo_hoo:
As for me the 1/200 is prohibiting cause of space. I got the old 1/700 IJN Mikasa and even if she almost 10 year old is still the king of 1/700 pre-dreadnoughts even compared to recent offerings in resin. Im looking forward of course for the 1/700 new IJN Mikasa from Hasegawa. Hope we will see some pictures of the new 1/200 and 1/700 versions on the site.

Edit:My god ! David J Ross thanks for your pictures of HMS Vengeance, I have in my stash a 1/700 HMS Vengeance from Combrig those would be valuable in my build !

Yep, red parts are the extra parts included in the kit allowing you to depict early/pre war fit. They just want to show unlike their 1/350 kits, you can build both variants using the same kit.

I really wish I could justify to myself spending over 300 bucks on a model. Even a 1/200 one. This one looks VERY promising though. Even vents bases look, more or less, correct!

Just received the 1/200 kit (having the new 1/700 already on order) and this one is huge for somebody who is normaly just in 1/700. I visit Mikasa in Yokosuka and made a lot of pictures, including an 50 shot panorama of her port side, so every detail should be visible. Sure this is not her 1905 appearance but for some hull details this might be helpfull. What I got as first problem was the missing of any visors for the portholes, there is nothing, so I am thinking about producing some out of wire or go with the WEM ones for Bismark. Before getting lost in this, short question. Is there any after market set planned for the 1/200 Mikasa also focused on this problem ? I just found by now an anouncement of Artwox for an wooden deck to be available June. Maybe somebody has already any input about this. Second problem seems to be the 12 and 6 inch guns, looking a bit thick, already received the 200L44 set of RB model and will compare them, if somebody is interested I can post the findings. Thanks for any feedback

About the tunnel ring question which came up here ...

As far as These 2 Images of Mikasa show, there no rings visible...

Here a zoomed photo of the funnels from picture #2 above ... I see no rings on them. :wave_1:

Funnell rings appeared only after the 1908 rebuild.

This is probably a stupid question, but is there any difference between the Merit 1/200 Mikasa and the Wave 1/200 Mikasa kits ? Free Time has both kits and there is a $50 difference between the two.

Thanks

Merit, Wave and Hobbyboss are all subsidaries of Trumpeter as far as I know.

Lately, there have been Merit releases of kits as built models, so, who knows. I just did a search and found the Trumpeter 1/200 Nelson listed as Wave 1/200 in Japan?

No doubt there's no difference whatsoever.

Hobby Boss has now announced a 1902 version of the Merit/Wave/Trumpeter 1/200 Mikasa.

No doubt it is the same basic kit, but the artwork does show the earlier mast configuration, large ventilators and color scheme so perhaps revisions to backdate the kit have been made:

GOSH this takes minutes to load, anyway this a new release as new is an early fit.You can see that from the paint and the ventilations around the funnels. This kit can also be the base for a late 1905 fit.
