Dont start your new Fujimi IJN Fuso and IJN Yamashiro battleship or any other Imperial Japanese warships without that:

An early war IJN Takao class heavy cruiser. And maybe if we are lucky this year a late war, IJN Kumano or IJN Suzuya.Plus some air craft carriers(not a fan of air craft carriers).

Hi All,

Congrats everyone on all the great efforts and knowledge shared on this forum.
I am new to this forum and planning to return to ship modelling.
If I am planning to buy a comprehensive 1/350 Fuso detail set (~ $100) to go with ship kit.
Should I pay the extras to get the 1/350 Fujimi Fuso DX kit that comes with with 3 factory etch frets ?

Or should I simply get the more basic kit and add all details from the set?

For ~$100, which detail set is the best investment - Flyhawk, LionRoar or Pontos ?
What else do I need to plan for in addition ? - (Veteran AA guns, decks ?)

Thanks for your help in advance.

Dave C

Hello from Vancouver,

Does anyone here know a reliable supplier within North America who carries the Aoshima 1/700 waterline Yamashiro 1944 kit?

My local model store (Imperial Hobbies, in Richmond, BC) doesn't carry it and the store owner has had trouble ordering it from his current suppliers.

He says Aoshima and Fujimi kits are particularly hard to get within North America.

So I am bursting with envy at the rest of you who were able to buy the Fuso class kits from these companies without a problem.

Thanks in advance for any information that could be of help.

Being from Vancouver (and living there on the occasion nowadays), I share your pain!

That said, Freetime Hobbies is pretty good for getting those kits. They're a sponsor of this site, to boot. Here's their listing for the kit you want: http://www.freetimehobbies.com/AOS39083/

Thanks Timmy. But in your experience how reliable is Freetime Hobbies when it comes to orders?

Well, it says they have one in stock, so there's no worries about waiting for them to get one from the supplier.

And they are very reliable indeed, though shipping to Canada is a bit more expensive than domestic shipping in the continental US. But it definitely gets to you quickly!
