I just watched the History Channel's "Dogfights: Hunt for the Bismarck." It is a 3-d computer animated documentary that features excellent graphics. You can watch it on Youtube if you want to.

I just have a couple of questions about the rendering of Bismarck: She is depicted with the port and starboard bridge wings folded against the side of the bridge instead of pointing straight outwards. Was this even possible? Could the bridge wings really be folded against the bridge?

Yes, they were folded back when not needed for docking or other purposes. There is a photo showing the ship with it's docking wings in the stowed position on http://www.kbismarck.com

And here's a nice Bismarck film from YouTube:

Find the Harhaus 1:100 planset, the two books by Joseph Kaiser and detail drawings by Jürgen Eichardt.

Spend a few hundred dollars to get it. If that is too expensive, well, that's too bad. The rest just isn't really worth it.

The Revell kit in 1/350 scale is out now!

It is an amazing kit, that really puts the Tamiya/Academy and the Mini Hobby offerings on the "trash heap of history".

:thumbs_up_1: Ed, Your work on the Bismarck is outstanding. I have been an aircraft modeler for over 35 years and your amazing work has inspired me to tackle ship building! I plan to "wood" deck a 1/400 CC Lee Admiral Scheer kit as she was prior to her 1940 refit. I have Tom's Modelworks & White Ensign photo etch sets for detailing. I do have a question about the decking. Should the decking be uniform or laid out as you have done on your Bismarck? Does it matter? Also, any advice on ship building would be greatly appreciated. :wave_1:

I have the new Revell Bismarck here to build so I am searching for info.

Is there anybody that has DVD's about the search for the wreck of the Bismarck or maybe books about it?

I am searching for these:

James Cameron's Expedition - Bismarck
The Battleship Bismarck: Anatomy of the Ship
The Discovery of the Bismarck: Germany's Greatest Battleship Surrenders Her Secrets
National Geographic: The Search For the Battleship Bismark

Please let me know.

Greets,

I just picked up the new Revell 1/350 Bismarck.
The Arado Ar196 Aircraft Bismarck had on board. The revell Instructions show a splinter type dark green and lighter green camoflage. I can see this is some pictures of the Arado (not necessarly on board the bismarck) but in other websites and pictures the green seems to be all one color. Does anyone know whats what and what the real colors should be. I beleive its HELLBLAU for the underneath. But which number?

Dragon just released a premium edition of their Bismarck kit. Good kit, but the box art shows the Tirpitz in Bismarck's camouflage colors, not the Bismarck herself.

What is the best 1/700 kit out there for Bismarck? Dragon with PE?

I have the Trumpeter Tirpitz, and it's really nice, outside of the deck seams. From what I've read elsewhere, the consensus seems to be the Trumpeter kit is nicer than either the Dragon or Aoshima versions.

I noticed in my current Bismarck build (Tamiya 1/350) that the square life rafts are not included. Does anyone know if these are sold after-market, or have a tip on how to reproduce them?

WEM produces a PE set that includes those lift rafts. It also includes all those vents located on the #1 deck along with the different scuttles and windows.

Cheers :wave_1:

What color should I paint the prop shafts on the Bismarck? I have seen them red to match the hull, silver, gray, and the Tamiya instructions say gold. Which is most accurate?

Thanks all.

PS - Looks great, modelman!
