Orthochromatic Film was mostly blue sensitive and blue tint would be quite white. Panchromatic film would distinguish a broad range of spectra. Filtration is commonly used with Black and White Pan films, a red filter for instance makes blue tints quite dark!

Have fun!

Thanks for the info! I searched for some photos of the harbour of Melbourne for a reference. This is the finished painting:

I added the list of available kits and gallery entries to the first page. There were over 100 Hood entries into the gallery, so I had to split the links up over the first three posts of this topic.

Major effort Martin. A great quick reference point for Hood builders. Thanks for all the hard work in creating it. :thumbs_up_1:

Thank you very much gents! Piano and art are my major works, while modelling is a hobby (as we all know!) And Jabb...I'm still a boy (respondsibility-wise :heh:), turning 15 soon. And above all, I have an exact copy, my twin brother Aur, who does every single thing I do...

Off to the canvases, with lots of energy from the kind words! I will post more pics of my paintings (also I will tell my brother to post his as well) when they are done...maybe in a new thread...

Thanks!

Thanks a lot, Thomas! Creating a new thread now, as some unfinished and progressing ones would be appropriate for posting there

Anybody got drawings of the 5.5 inch gunhouse used on the Hood? I will need them for 3D design.

Thanks!
Aop

Well, I don't have those, plus it is a design for another modeler... Maybe someone who has those books could send me some scans?

Work it out in the relevant thread. The CASF is now flooded with trivial requests.

Oh alright! Maybe I'll make a new thread.

I hope this question is suitable in here. How thick is the shield of the 5.5 inch gun house? I wanted to get as close as possible...

Thanks!

I have been seeking for good photos of the 5.5 inch gun houses used aboard the Hood. So far I found plenty of them, but all are in low res. I wanted to see the rivet locations and numbers on the shield. Helps will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Aop

Unfortunately, I can't be of much help here. We have tons of photos of 5.5" guns as you can imagine, but, nothing close-up (at least of the entire front of the shields). I do see what appear to be very low- key riveting along the forward edges of the side platse. I also see "rails" along the rear sections of the top and side shields. Two viewports in the front. I can post some shots for you in a temporary location online if you wish (send me a PM and I will let you know the URLs).

Looking at the turrets, there are small scallops on the outer bottom edges of the side armor where the armor makes a bend.

Does anyone have any good closeup photos of those scallops? Are the turrets' rear overhang sides chamfered at the bottom?
