What exactly is the upper rear facets? Is it the rectangular extensions on top of the turrets? Because I see them on all the secondary turrets.

The rectangular extension you see on the tops of the 5" mounts is the gun captain's blast hood. Below is a photo of a last hood on a museum ship.

Do the 5"/38's that you make have the blast hoods? And is there an option for those who might wish to use metal barrels like you do for the twin 5"/38's.

Good news, the models have been modified to remove the barrel and include the gun captain's blast hood. I'll post photos of the actual models after the updated design has been printed; all of our printers are presently fully engaged printing customer orders so the new models will get their turn in one of the printers later today or tonight.

In the mean time, below are some renderings of the updated models. The set includes:
- 6 double-knuckle mounts
- 2 double-knuckle mounts with rear facet
- 2 single-knuckle mounts with rear facet

Even though I haven't ordered to Idaho kit, I just ordered the set of 5"/38's and 14"/50 turrets and barrels.

Anyone know which version of the quad 40mm mk2 the Idaho had? Mod 1 or 2?
Some aftermarket parts have a mod 1 or 2. Both unshielded.

Ok. Thanks. I couldn't seeing any difference between the two aftermarket setups. So it doesn't really matter which one I get.

More New Mexico class fun.
This is probably the last photograph ever taken of USS Idaho wearing MS-12. She arrived in Norfolk on Dec.17, 1941. On Dec.30, 1941 eight tugs moved her from berth 29 to drydock #4. While in drydock her transition into MS-12 mod commenced.
In this photo dated 12/30/41 you can see her MS-12 camo on her hull and 4 of the 8 tugs assisting her to drydock #4. It appears that all four of the visible tugs were from the Wood Towing Corp. Notice also the stern of USS Mississippi can be seen in this shot.

I was able to find another photo from Dec. 30, 1941. This one was taken moments before the shot above. Most of USS Idaho is covered by smoke but you can still see the MS-12 camo on her hull and a little detail on the main deck. The tug facing the camera is YT-213. Behind her is YT-17. The tug on the right is the same tug from Wood Towing Corp as seen in the other photo.

Found this image and caption posted on the Battleship Cove Facebook page.

December 1949: This image at the Norfolk Navy Yard shows mothballed USS Massachusetts with gunnery training ship (and former battleship BB-41) USS Mississippi.

Martin, do you have a larger copy of that image I can have?

I downloaded it direct from facebook, so that's all I've got. Maybe the Virginia Beach Public Library has a better copy?

The Idaho had 21-inch twin bollards along with 18 open and 2 (maybe 40 closed chocks. Were the chocks 21-inch as well? I am leaning yes. That would put each chock at 3mm (length) x 2mm (height) x 1mm (width) in 1/350 scale. I had to use metric instead of inches because of how small the dimensions are. My search continues for chocks to put on my Idaho kit. I haven't found the size I need as of yet.

Photoetched parts and my fingers do not get along. I'm wondering if anyone can direct me to a source for 3D printed parts compatible with a 1/700 prewar NM-class ship. Specifically, I'm looking for the following:

X-turret catapult
fantail catapult
stern seaplane crane
boat cranes (amidships and aft)

(The first three at least, I believe, could be substituted from Pennsylvania/Arizona and wouldn't need to be NM-specific.)

Thanks in advance.
