USS Juneau (CL 52)
19 March 1942 at the New York Navy Yard.
She is painted in a modified Measure 12 before the false bow wave pattern.
The picture in the floating Drydock's "USS Juneau CL 52" of the pilot house has the director/rangefinder covered.

NavSource has some shots from that date while she's pier side in NYNY but none that show the bridge area. From what I know I can tell you she had a Mk-37 director (with a Mk-4 radar I believe) and a standard old rangefinder (that could be found on plenty of ships) atop her bridge/forward superstructure. What size rangefinder I don't know for sure but its a small one. Maybe a 5 meter set? Sorry I can't be more specific.

You mean this photo. The director is an early "taper-back" Mk-37. I don't know which Mk the rangefinder is.

That's the picture I'm working from. Thanks for posting it.
It's the covered rangefinder that I'm trying to find info on so I can scratch build one for my Juneau project.

Gentelmen,
this is a shot in the dark, I've got a very old kit of CL-53, USS SAN DIEGO it's a 1978 AMT/MATCHBOX unbuilt. Problem is NO instructions, all the pieces are on the trees, so no lost parts.
Does anyone know where I might find them or something close ?

I am looking for the USS Spokane CLAA 120, My Grandfather was a plank owner on her. I have seen other ships close. I was talking to him before he passed away. There were only three CLAAs The Juneau 119, the Spokane 120, and the Fresno 121. The CL 52 Juneau which is the Atlanta class and earlier design the super structures are different. Admiralty makes a resin model that is 1/700 scale of the Spoke does anyone know of anywhere else that may make a USS Spokane model. The Bridges are different even though the ships profiles are similar. I is important to me to get as exact detail as I can of her as she was my old mans favorite ship he served on.

Hello All,

I am searching for reference material on the USS San Juan CL-54. Specifically, I need drawings, sketches, and/or good quality photographs of the camouflage pattern that the USS San Juan was wearing early in WWII. The pattern was called Measure 12 (modified) and as we all know, that pattern varied from ship to ship.

I own the Warship Perspectives book on Atlanta Class Cruisers in World War Two by Glenn R. Arnold. There is a color illustration of the port side of the San Juan in the color plates, albeit simplified. There are also a few photographs of the port and starboard sides with the ship in that pattern, but it is somewhat difficult to make out the details.

Any help or leads would be greatly appreciated. If there is a cost involved, I am willing to bargain. Thanks.

Have you checked her NavSource page? There are a couple of high-res black and whites and one color shot showing both sides between them plus an aerial shot. The hull is quite clear in the them but he superstructure is a bit harder to make out. If you want, I can try to play with them in Photoshop a bit to bring out some more detail. Let me know.

Yes, if you could punch up the contrast in those shots, that would be great! I'm having someone make me some masks in 1/700 and 1/350 scale and he needs "good quality" reference material. Let me know how it goes.

Can anyone point me to the Record Group at NARA that has the Atlanta/Juneau general arrangement blueprints? I received several rolls from RG 19, and these were all electrical and mechanical plans. I have the blue prints from the floating Dry dock, but I just would like my own digital copy.

RG19 contains all ship blueprints. I have seen 1:48 scale profile and general arrangement paper blueprint drawings for the CLAAs (Juneau, I believe). I think they were from the NARA RG19 records. Maybe from Floating Drydock. You need to get the Index reel (if there is one) and look for the general plans. However, blueprints are arranged by "S" numbers (sorry, I can't recall right now what the real name is) and the general arrangement deck plans are in the "S1" group. So these are almost always on Reel 1.

One problem is that not all plans in NARA are on microfilm. They have a collection of paper blueprints as well, and many were never photographed.
