I'll check Friedman, but I think Veteran's Number 6 is actually right. It is suppose to be a box cabinet with a binocular like optic on top.

Hmmm, I am not sure what 13 Sokutekiban means. If that means type 13 Sokutekiban, then it's probably different from those found on ships modernized in the late 1930s. Most of those ships had type 92 Sokutekiban.

Hi Jose,
an exciting build. I love picture "DSC_0001_edited-1" whre you can get a feeling of Myoko's mighty superstructure. Very nice the windows!
So, don't hunt gremlins, Better continue with Myoko!

thanks Dirk, i'll cut those little guys some slack and get back to my buildup.. these 2 summer classes i'm taking right now are making me miserable and on top of that my girlfriend is making me go nuts too i want to get back to the hull and finish somethings there, hopefully Chuck is reading this and he will show me a pic of how his Sokutekiban looks like so i can get a finished approval from those gremlin guys hehehe

i finished up the rigging and the twin machine guns,BTW forgot to mention on the pic these are Veteran's. By my book i believe this superstructure is all done so i want to start tackleling the hull on monday, having no work is awesome

This is the photo of the Sokutekiban in Friedman's Naval Firepower. The device seems obviously different from either ATOS illustration or the Veteran model.

Much appreciated Chuck it looks more complex than the one shown on Fuso's book, you know i wonder why Fuso wasnt fitted out with a newer type of computer other than the 13? probably this type 13 wasn't designed for any of the cruisers and solely for the battleship. i'll see what i can do with that shot thanks again

It was probably because Fuso was modernized before heavy cruisers. The latest Sokutekiban may not have been available when she was modernized.

BTW, Sokutekiban was present only on Japanese battleships and cruisers whose fire control systems were originally designed in the 1920s. More modern Japanese firecontrol systems didn't have a separate Sokutekiban. The function was incorporated into the director. Ships that didn't have Sokutekiban includes the Mogami, Tone, Yahagi, and Yamato classes, and also modernized Hiei.

Yes. Takao had it. Basically, if the Japanese ship's main battery director and range finder were mounted separately, then she would also have a separate Sokutekiban somewhere nearby. If her main battery director and range finder were integrated into a single mount, then the role of the Sokutekiban would also be integrated into the director and there would be no separate Sokutekiban. Starting with the Mogami class, the Japanese adopted integrated director/range finder similar to British director control tower. So starting with Mogami, Sokutekiban disappeared as a separate instrument on newer Japanese ships. With the sole exception of the Hiei, the new integrated fire control were never retrofitted to older ships undergoing modernization.

Thanks Chuck, you sure do alot of reading i wish i had the patience you got.


i've been working on the turrets since friday snail pace but still on it. i got around two finish 2 of them perhaps the hardest ones because of the extra detail such as the anthennas. i had to work the turrets a bit, those 2 gaps on top of the heat shield are simply to raise up the barrels but accurately there are none therefore i filled them in, i did leave 1 barrel on turrets 2 and 4 raised up in case you are wondering

The last picture with the B turret all by its lonesome looks very naked.

Bob is right, nice work and the lonely B turret looks naked.
But the added details of B turret are very effective to give it a very real appearance. And another advantage of this picture is: no C turret is blocking the view of the mighty superstructure of Myoko. Looks magnificient with the four paravanes and all the added details. Looking forward to your next updates!
