I noticed you used model masters paints, what were the exact colors for the parts of the ship? I have a horrible time finding the correct paints for my ships.

Wouldn't mind knowing this myself.

I have ordered some Testors model master Haze Grey 5-H & Deck Blue 20-B, but am intersted to know what the hull blue is. Is it a mix of Deck Blue & something else or a stand alone Testors colour?

Stunning model by the way. I have been toying with getting Juneau CL-52 or San Diego CL-53. Reckon I will now. :thumbs_up_1:

Thank you guys for your kind words on this model.

I use Testors' Model Master Acryl Naval paints on all my ship models. Here are the colors used on this build.

The hull is #4241 Navy Blue 5-N

The light color on the superstructure is #4238 Haze Gray 5-H

The darker color on the superstructure is #4239 Ocean Gray 5-O

The deck is #4243 Deck Blue 20B

When my stock pile of this paint runs out and I can't get anymore, I will probably change to PollyS paints.

HTH

She wore "Measure 12 (Modified) Graded System" in 1942:

I don't see any in 1942 photo on the NHC or Navsource page. However, San Juan did have them:

That Boston photo is probably post commissioning and trials. I'll bet they hadn't put them on board yet. In a combat zone I can't imagine she would not have carried them; those ships didn't have a lot of deck space, so the balance of rafts not stacked on deck aft would have to be put somewhere. Juneau and Atlanta show rafts stored on the turrets in 1942.

Funny you should say the Atlanta as the name plate in the DM kit is for the Atlanta not the San Diego. So when I get to that bit of the build should I place them on the turrets as shown?

You'll want to hunt up photos for exact placement, but yes, they will be there for Atlanta. I'm sure they'll be there for San Diego, too, it's just a matter of finding the proof.

I'm planning on building the Atlanta during the Midway campaign from the Dragon Juneau kit. She was in Ms. 12 mod at this time, before her hull was painted overall Navy Blue (or was it Sea Blue?). Am I right in thinking that her hull was Ocean Grey with Sea Blue splotches and her upper works were Haze Grey with Ocean Grey splotches?

If I figured it out correctly while on the Admiralty model site they are doing the USS Spokane CLAA120, the third group of the class and the first time this version has been available in any scale plastic or resin. Can someone confirm if I got this correct?
