Hey

Considering to tackle the U-Boat Lab's Dupleix cruiser after finishing my current diorama, I thought opening this thread would be good.

I have a question about the colors. U-Boat Lab gives a black hull with buff/yellow superstructures (as built) or gray overall scheme (1914). While looking at the photos, I noticed this one:

For me, it looks like white hull, buff superstructures tropical scheme. What do you guys think, would that be correct for french navy? I would love to portray her like this..

Accoding to pics I've seen here and there:
During WW1, and since early 1900s', french surface ships were grey (mid-grey, a bit blue I think).
Fall of the 1800s', early 1900s', ships bigger than destroyers were black hull, grey superstructures (Atlantic) or black hull, "buff yellow(?)" superstructures (in Mediterranean Sea).
My bet would be white looking ships served overseas in Asian colonies or in the Pacific? Not sure the superstructures were yellow however.

Distinguish the Edgar Quinet class Armored Cruiser

There is no remarkable differences between these two ships before 1928, But four points:

1,Different numbers of side scuttle in the bow.
2,Different shapes of anchor recess in portside bow, notice the difference between portside and starboard of these two ships.
3,There's little difference between two ships' Fore-top.
Edgar Quinet : only on yard in the front of her Fore-top.
Waldeck-Rousseau : one yard in the each sides of Fore-top.
4,Different shapes of Boiler Room Ventilation.

 Post subject: Dupuy de Lôme

A few months ago I purchased Combrig's superb 1/350 scale resin kit of what was arguably the world's first armored cruiser, the Dupuy de Lôme (in her original 1895 guise). While the instructions are much more detailed than what Combrig has traditionally provided, there are no painting instructions. From examining online photos it seems clear that the lower half of the upper hull (I have the full hull model) is black and its upper half seems to be buff or ochre; the lower (submerged) hull doesn't seem to be dark enough for the green often used by France at this time and so I assume it is red. Does anyone out there know for sure? Thanks for your help!
