Thank you Terry,

Its nice to hear plain speaking from someone and also that you are thinking along similiar lines.
Searching through my photos database once again I find yet more evidence that it must be Kimberley
I have this down as 'HMS Kimberley Churchill visit August 1944':
Image

So ar please come back at me, state your reasons or you are out of the game!

I assume Terry you mean this photo of her laid up?

As we can all now see she now has a windscreen in place.

On the subject of my photos I have put a tremendous amount of work into my database.
I have been collecting images of (predominantly) Royal Navy warships in WW2 since I was about 12.
Over the last 2-3 years I finally managed to catalogue them,
ID 99% of them and each warship, destroyer and larger, has its own dedicated folder, split into classes and also linked into ship types.
The database currently stands at 9,900 images.

hmm I sense impatience in the force!

Don't worry muggins will probaly have to solve it once I unearch some non-copyrighted good shots of J/K/N Bridge insides.

One assume bridges like most things on wartime destroyers got heavily modified dependant upon the job she was doing or the year.

The answer is clear, but I want somebody other than myself to post it.

I rather think its pure Mountbatten propoganda!

I'm certain that it was designed that way- Mountabatten was able to portray himself in a flattering way and the film industry was able to produce some ' war-winning propaganda. Still, with a full scale Kelly/Torrin constructed for the film on a sound stage it is a good reference.

laurence, do you have photo's of:
1) a Tribal Bridge front, close-up of screen
2) a JKN Bridge, taken from crows nest

if so compare to "Churchill on Kimberley", because I think that the comparison will help with ar's cryptic messages.

If you look at the photo of Tartar's Bridge from the crows net, the shelf and low screen are clearly seen, how does this compare with an JKN ??

Its nice to have someone with such a large photo collection on board, who also appears to have the time it takes to do the research.
keep up the good work.

Terry

Thank you for your kind words,

I don't think I have any more photos to hand I'm afraid of precisely what you desire.
Often finding photos through my research is by pure accident.

I do have many photos close enough to show a bridge face of a J/K/N and they all show a glass spray/windscreen in position.
I suppose this could have been removable? and was removed for observational purposes in Kimberley for her 'honoured guests' to have a grandstand view?
I do not however have any which show internally the bridge layout to compare layout etc.

I'll see if Mr Langtree whill chime in.
I couldn't think of anyone more qualified to beat ar at his own game!

I am undertaking 'operational' rather than 'technical' research at present.
I shall keep an eye out however. :thumbs_up_1:

The photograph is indeed of the Kimberley. What you can see is the glass temporarily removed and protective splinter plating installed for the dignataries visit. After the visit it was removed and the windows reinstalled. As for bridge photos I have these somewhere (along with drawings) but it will take some time to find them. I seem to recall John Lambert also did a drawing of the bridge voice pipe arrangements (which I didn't use). A final note - if you are modelling the Kimberley be sure to include the platform between the mainmast legs.

It's a little like revealing the secret of a magic trick, it then becomes obvious. It's fun this way, and I am sure that others can see what I am seeing. I went and had a look at the "as fitted" plans that I have, and it checks out.

Alan,

I might notice more of these things if I had access to all the photos and plans you have seen. (Sigh - drool - sigh again) :eyebrows:

Well I can see why it isn't a K, but not sure about what it is, at the moment I'm thinking a Hunt.

And when one looks at the ship and ignores the caption and the people, it is so easy.
