I love the design of this frigate, but have not seen anything from a modeling stand point. It looks like a pretty good alternative to the crap LCS designs the USN is being stuck with, especially adding some VLS capability to the second batch.

Anyone seen any models?

Unfortunately not - for some reason the South Korean navy appears to be ignored by most kit producers even though it has many interesting ships, e.g.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chungmugong_Yi_Sun-sin-class_destroyer

There was a 1/700 kit of a KDX I (KD I) destroyer by D-toys, but it is probably not available anywhere anymore.

This is this class:

Kobo-Hiryu, a small garage company, produced a resin 1/700 Ulsan and Po Hang class.
You would have to check Freetime to see if they still exist, some of their kits were unique but required a lot of prep work.

Hello,

It IS a great shame that the modelling companies are ignoring Asia. Some fascinating designs are coming out from not only South Korea, but India, Malaysia and Singapore as well. Other than the Orange Hobby Dokdo and the obscure KDX-1 the vanished from view almost as soon as I saw it, modern Asian Sea Power in the modelling world is a Japan/China affair. Here is one modeler who would love to see some other countries.

Yes, more kits of Asian navies!

There are some kits by Korbu Hiryu:
Thai corvette Ratanakosin

Thai patrol ship Pattani

Thai patrol boat Thayanchon

Thai frigate Kraburi

Thai frigate Naresuan

Indian frigate Godavari

Indian corvette Khukri

Malaysian frigate Kasturi

Malaysian frigate Lekiu

Ask the owner of fleetnet, if he can get the kits. Unfortunately there is no PE for them.

Are those old Kobo-Hiryu kits even still available anymore? Pacific Front used to carry them years ago, but I've not seen them anywhere else since then.
They had some South Korean kits as well if I remember. An Ulsan class frigate and a Pohang class corvette.

Hi Mike,
last year I bought several of them from Fleetnet including Kraburi (or a sister ship), Naresuan, and Lekiu. It took some time (months), because they had first to be cast, but I got the kits.

Best regards,
Lars

Are there still no 1/700 kit of South Korean ships?

There is now also the BigBlueBoy kit of Singapure's Formidable class, but the South Korean navy appears to be still ignored - but has very impressive ships!
