Hi,

What's the best SH-60 helicopter at 1/700 scale to use on the Big Blue Boy model of the Spanish Frigate Alvaro de Bazan ((also know by F100 Class Frigates), since no helicopter is included in this kit?

Thanks.
Regards,
Ayala Botto

Big Blue Boy themselves apparently make a set: http://freetimehobbies.com/1-700-big-bl ... aircrafts/

These are the Spanish SH-60:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:SH-60_in_service_with_Spain

The BigBlueBoy SH-60 appears not to contain the bow FLIR turret. It is probably easier (and much cheaper) to use the Trumpeter SH-60B, because it contains this part and the other features of the bow. But there are no PE rotors included in the Trumpeter set. I used the one by BJ-Modellbau.

If going with the Trumpeter offering, BBB also offers just PE replacements: http://www.hobbyeasy.com/en/data/enuoys ... rsmog.html

Hi,

Thanks a lot for your comments!
The combination of the Trumpeter SH-60 (with the FLIR turret on nose) and the BigBlueBoy PE detail set for the SH-60 (PE rotor blades, etc) seems indeed to be the best option.

Thanks.
Regards,
Ayala Botto

Hi,

Although 6 ships were originally planned, the Álvaro de Bazan class Frigates (also know by F100 Class Frigates), include the following ships:

F101 Álvaro de Bazán
F102 Almirante Juan de Borbón
F103 Blas de Lezo
F104 Méndez Núñez
F105 Cristóbal Colón

It's interesting to note that F105 Cristóbal Colón ship as a different fwd funnel than the other ships of the same class.
Check the following photos:

F101 Álvaro de Bazán photos:

It seems that the last ship of this class (F105 Cristóbal Colón) also has two MK38 Mod2 25mm guns on top of the helicopter hangar, as clearly visible on the following photo:

BTW, is the MK38 Mod2 25mm gun available at 1/700 scale?

Thanks.

I have read about the difference about the forward funnel, but I am not sure. I think that it is higher.

Your first Cristóbal Colón photo shows Álvaro de Bazan with the early form without funnel cap.

I have not seen any 25 mm Mk 38 Mod 2 in 1/700.

The RANS upcoming AWDs have the same funnel setup as F-105 so this has to be changed for anyone wanting to convert the BigBlueBoy kit Its cool they do the 25mm mounts now very handy

The Australian ships appear to be very similar to the Álvaro de Bazán.

No funnel cap on the forward funnel, AN/SPQ-9B radar, Phalanx on the hangar, different 5" gun... Where are the 2.5 cm Bushmaster?

Cristóbal Colón (F-105) (there is no F-106) also has no funnel cap, but is the funnel otherwise really different?

Image

Perhaps it is slightly higher, but it is difficult to see on photos.

In regard to the funnel cap of the first four Spanish ships, see this photo of Méndez Núñez:
Image

This is only a cap, which was added latter.

:help_1: :anyone: :please:
Hi Everyone,
I'm still hoping to find plans for either the Spanish frigates F100 Álvaro de Bazán or F105 Cristóbal Colón as I would like to scratch build the Australian AWD Hobart Class destroyer. I'm hoping to make the HMAS Brisbane so I'll need to alter the plans to suit the Australian configuration but I'm hoping that will be easy enough.
Could anyone please direct me to where online I could either find or purchase the plans? I'd be very grateful as I've had poor luck with finding them myself.
Cheers, :thanks: :thumbs_up_1:
Phil

This year I have seen the Spanish guided missile frigate Méndez Núñez of the Álvaro de Bazán (F100) class three times: two times in Copenhagen and one time in Kiel.

Here are the 187 photos - including photos of the 2 cm L/120 GAI-B01 Oerlikon guns on the bridge wings, which the BigBlueBoy kit does not include:

and here photos of her Sikorsky SH-60B Torro helicopter:
