Hi Guys,
Reg,
There are/were two 1/350 Adams Class DDG kits produced for public consumption. I have both of these kits, so I can give first hand information; for what that's worth. Both of these kits are resin cast, multi-media kits.
1) ISW IronShipWright Models in the US.
This kit is of DDG-6, and includes pretty much all of the parts to do any era and any ship through DDG-19. This kit comes with a very nice and complete decal sheet. This sheet is done by Hawk Graphics; also available separately through the decal maker.
2) WEM White Ensign Models of the UK. This is the older of the two kits, and is most likely what you'd be looking at if you've done any builders' gallery browsing for Adams class DDG's in 1/350.
This kit is of DDG-22, and includes p/e for foreign navies too. This p/e set will come in handy for you.
There is no 1/350 scale Adams class DDG currently available in injected molded styrene plastic.
We hope this will change some time soon. What with the 1/350 Perry Class FFG kit from Academy; same era etc etc.
The largest Adams DDG in plastic is the Airfix 1/600 Rommel kit. This is a full hull kit, and I've had one but I traded it it off a long time ago. Nice box art!
The current 1/700 offerings are all the same; various incarnations of the once proud Pit-Road kit.
I've built two of these from Dragons' DDG-21 kit and Dragons' DDG-2 kit.
I still ahve a bunch of parts left over from these.
Oh, the ISW kit is substantially cheaper than the WEM kit and the quality between the two kits is comparable. Each model needs work to do an accurate DDG. There, I said it.
HTH, Tony

A fibreglass hull and 1:72 plans of the Perth class DDG are available from APS Models of Australia.

It's a minor alteration to make the change from Australian to US DDG, replacing the Ikara mounts and deck house with the ASROC launcher.

He can be contacted at apsmods at bigpond.net.au.

A significant number of parts are also available in 1:72 from APS.

I was aboard the USS Lynde McCormick (DDG-8) 1969 thru 1970. I have purchased the Dragon 1/700 Adams Class Guided Missle Destroyer for assembly. But I have seen references to a 1/350 version (or maybe that is just the later DDGs). Does anyone know if there is a 1/350 scale of the earlier Adams class out there?

Thanks,

Carl Jackson

Hi Guys,
Carl,
The only 1/350 kit currently available to do DDG-8 from is the ISW, (IronShipWright), DDG-6 kit. The kit itself is a resin model, and will require some extensive, "parts prep". The pros and cons of Resin vs Plastic won't be discussed here. Suffice it to say, there is no alternative to your building a 1/350 DDG kit; unless you wish to build it from scratch. The ISW DDG-6 kit lists out at $159.95 I think. I bought it about two years ago on special for $129.95 plus shipping. It's still languishing with so many other of my, "some day", projects.
There is another 1/350 Adams DDG from WEM, (White Ensign Models), and it is of the DDG-22. This kit is a resin kit also. I have posted on this thread the headaches involved with making an accurate DDG-22 from this kit. I won't go into it again here and now. If you want to do a waterline version of DDG-8, you could use either kit, but the Barney is the better choice. The Lynde McCormick in 1969-70 will be a lesser conversion to ISW's DDG-6 kit. Just use your references, ( I can help you if you'd like), plus your cruise books etc for the all important,"Period Photos", needed to build your ship as she was in 69-70. Do this and you'll arrive at a 15" beauty of your old grey home.
If you'd like, I can post some pics of the ISW kit here; in unbuilt form.
HTH, Tony

Hi Guys,
Mardis,
You might consider buying Ray Bean's CFA's picture CD. Definitely the most comprehensive photo collection available of CFA's for the money.
Also, if you need halp, I'll be happy to assist you with details-type information........or spiritual assistance!
Tony

Hi Guys,
Mardis,
What kind of Pu-tokh is this?
You're in the no-fret zone.

Mardis,

Don't worry! Its ISW!!

They'll replace most parts if you screw any up. But, the whole model? They probably can't help you, there.

So, on second thought.......................maybe you should worry.
