Hey all, Im the new kid. :). Anyway , I just started a trumpeter version of the Freedom as my first venture into ships, and was thinking painting strategery for my construction and ran across this interactive flash thingamajiggy that is pretty pro for getting a sense of what is going to be hard to paint when. Sorry if this is a double post, but thought someone could get more use than I will out of it at this point. HTH, and hopefully Ill have some pics I can share in the appropriate place later on.

Cheers!

Wow, just went through that virtual tour. Excellent reference. I'm certain this is LCS-3 Fort Worth. The give away was the anchor operating system on the foc'sle and the three bays for weapons systems on the 03 Level. I'm sure there are other clues. Very interesting site. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Hi guys.
Was wondering if anyone had the correct colors for the camo she just got. Have the Bronco kit and it is ready to be sprayed.
I have an idea of the colors but want to make sure. I am very eager to paint it as it will stand out in my modern collection like a sore thumb.
Also the 1/350 Bronco kit of the Fort Worth is a gem. Perfect fit,5 aircraft and all the pe needed to make a great model.
Paul

sirpaul,

I can't share the pattern with you but you can get it from looking at on line pics. The colors are; 27038, 26008, 26173, 26270, and 26373. Those are the FS numbers and you should be able to match them up with the Model Master line. You will have to substitute a "3" in place of the "2" in the color numbers. "2" just means semi-gloss while the "3" is flat. Humbrol has a match for 27038, number 85 coal black. They have two other matches but again flat. color #126 matches 36270 and #156 matches 36173.

I hope that is a start,

Bill Liebold

I'm going to move this to CASF thread in a bit to keep that valuable info.

Thanks for the FS numbers Bill!!! :thumbs_up_1:

For you Testor's folks, subbing a 3 for the 2, here goes:

FS 37038 = MM Flat Black
FS 36008 = No direct match - Closest is FS 36076 Panzer Gray (add black)
FS 36173 = MM AMC Gray
FS 36270 = MM Neutral Gray
FS 36373 = No direct match - Closest is FS 36375 Lt Ghost Gray (add white - SMALL amount if so desired)

For other brands try this database but just remember that its not 100% accurate.

Hi guys, speaking of camouflage it seems like the LCS-3 Fort Worth has received a different camo than the LCS-1 Freedom.

Here is a pic courtesy of the Malasiya Flying Herald:

Now there is really reason to build both!

OK, after seeing this and other photos I have to try the paint on my 1/700 Fort Worth.

As far as kit corrections the most glaring is the lack of anchor fixture on the starboard bow. Hard to imagine they missed something that big when they adjusted the stern. The only other changes I've noticed is that there is only one opening on the top-center port side (life raft?) instead of the two molded in and the shape of the center-most windows is squared off in the kit but trapezoidal on the real ship.

I've also yet to find a photo of Fort Worth that shows the turreted guns high amidships port and starboard (sorry, can't find caliber in the references) actually on the ship. I did see them on Freedom. So should I put them on?

Anything else I need to fix?

Thanks!

The 'turreted guns' are the 30mm cannons part of the LCS Anti-surface Warfare mission package - that is, they are inserted when the ships are to carry out that mission, and left off when not. So put them on or off, it's up to you.

Fort Worth also has slightly different antenna locations and mast details. Extra sat dome on roof near countermeasure launchers. The second port side life raft is relocated above the bridge. And bow deck area needs anchor chain and associated details added. Added to your list, I think this covers about everything.

Just a clarification - this tour has images from both Freedom and Fort Worth. Some are labeled, like the bridge shots, while others are not. The 03 deck shots are a mix of each.

I'll second the excellent reference!

Gentlemen,

The LCS program has lots of problems, and, in my humble opinion, should be cancelled. A Navalized version of the National Security Cutter (which has the same gun) would do better in many aspects. The VISBY corvette was studied by USN for the LCS. It appears that the lessons were not inculcated.
There is a 1/96 scale radio-controlled model of USS FREEDOM (LCS-1), offered by Homeport Models. I know the fellow making these, it is a good product. I should add that I produce the 57mm MK110 gun for this model

It is a shame that the US Navy is still building these. They also continued to make changes AFTER CONSTRUCTION STARTED! No, you don't do that and expect good results. We'll see if they survive a future round of budget cuts if the Supercommittee cannot come to an agreement soon.

Respectfully,
Nelson

Anyone know who this actually is? I need this gun in 1/96 scale
